The Watch

Here we have a 2018 Bremont AL1-C Chronograph, in 2018 marking 100 years of British Military Aviation, the ALTI-C/BL was redesigned with the signature Blue of the RAF. A round satin-finished stainless steel 43mm case, with the same finished bezel, gives an impression of quality and endurance. Domed Sapphire Crystal with AR Coating protects the Royal Blue dial, a white minute chapter ring adds an interesting border. Baton markers for the hours replace the usual Arabic numerals, giving it a modern feel, slim rounded hands remind me of the propeller of a plane, both hands and indexes are filled with Supa-LumiNova. The 2 subdials indicate 60 seconds and 30-minute registers, they are white with concentric circles for detailing. Finally, a date window sits at the 6 o’clock position. The text has been kept to a stylish minimum with just Bremont and Chronometer. On the back, we have a screw-down exhibition case with the same Sapphire crystal as the front, we can see the skeletonised Bremont Rotor with its piston engine detailing sitting on top of the Bremont automatic Calibre 13 1/4''' BE-50AE - it is technically a modified Valjoux 7750. It is COSC chronometer-certified, 28 jewels and beats at 28,800 beats per hour with up to 42 hours of power reserve. Fitted with a Blue nubuck leather strap with a signed buckle, it comes with an additional brown leather strap and the watch comes with its Bremont presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

I have always loved the ALT1-C and this blue dial edition is absolutely perfect, especially with its brushed finished case rather than polished, which gives a real utilitarian feel to the watch. This reference is easily one of my favourites from Bremont, if you haven't had the chance to see this in person, book an appointment and come check it out.

The Brand

Bremont was founded in 2002 by the brother's Nick and Giles English. Their watch designs are inspired by their love of flying and everything mechanical. During the 1990s while flying their 1930s biplane over France they got into trouble and had to land in a field. Not wishing to get the authorities involved, they were met by the farm owner who gave them and the plane shelter, it turned out he had flown during the war and was an engineer. The brothers, grateful to the kind farmer, promised him they would never forget him, his name was Antoine Bremont. In 1995 they were involved in an accident and sadly lost their father Dr Euan English while flying their World War II vintage Harvard aircraft. His loss and their injuries drove the brothers to create a fitting legacy. They are moving into their Manufacturing & Technology Centre in 2021. Innovation and producing technologically advanced timepieces have been an ever-expanding experience for Bremont. Their military connections through special edition watches and tireless work with Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion means their late fathers' legacy will continue to grow.
