The Watch
Here we have a 2018 Baume & Mercier Clifton Club 10337 with a 42.5mm satin-brushed and polished stainless steel case, the bevel-edged scalloped sides lead to a lug-to-lug of and a case thickness of 49mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, a screw-down crown is protected by crown guards. The unidirectional black bezel has Arabic numerals and an orange triangle at 12 o’clock, and a flat sapphire crystal sits above a crisp white dial. An outer minute chapter ring has applied indexes infilled with C1 SuperLumiNova marking the hours. At 3 o’clock a framed date window, skeletonised rhodium-plated dauphine hands have the same luminance infill complemented by a red sweeping second hand. At 12 o’clock we have the Baume & Mercier motif with precisely printed text underneath. On the reverse a screw-down case back with the Baume & Mercier shield and “Club” engraved in the centre, inside an automatic Sellita SW200, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on its 21mm black and orange leather strap with a triple fold clasp with push button release and also comes with its box and paperwork.
Personal Note
This release by Baume & Mercier has gone down very well and it appeared to have been a great turning point for the brand, whilst they have always made wonderful watches, the Clifton line has brought a great refresh of models and designs that feel well and home in the modern collection. If you are unsure I'd recommend booking an appointment and come try it on for yourself.
The Brand
Baume & Mercier was founded in 1830, by brothers Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume, they opened a watch dealership in Les Bois, a village in the Swiss Jura. Opening an office in London they expanded quickly, winning several awards and gaining a reputation for excellence. William Baume joined forces with Paul Mercier and founded Baume & Mercier, Genève, in 1918. In 1988, the firm joined the Vendôme group, now Richemont.
