Nomos was founded in 1990 just after the reunification of Germany happened with the fall of the Berlin Wall. Based in the Glashutte region it takes inspiration from the Bauhaus design movement. To have Glashutte on the dial Nomos has to meet very strict quality standards. They must create at least 50% of the watch caliber in Glashutte to receive the title of being a true Glashutte watch. They only use in-house manufactured movements built up to 95% in the region surpassing that requirement.
This Nomos Ahoi Atlantik has a 40mm polished stainless steel round case. Elegant thin lugs. A 51 mm lug to lug length ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist. On the right side a screw-down crown with crown guards. A domed sapphire crystal has AR coating both inside and out helping to reduce reflections. The Atlantic blue dial reminds us of the deep Atlantic ocean, it has an outer minute track with lume pips. Numerals and baton indexes mark the hours. At 6 o’clock a date window. Thin elegant pencil hands have lume infill. A sub-seconds register sits just below completing the classic dial. On the reverse a screwed down with 6 screws exhibition case back. Inside an Automatic Nomos DUW 5101, 26 Jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. This in-house movement is tested in 6 positions. Its bi-directional rotor has been praised for its winding performance. Decorated with rhodium-plated surfaces, Glashutte stripes, and Nomos perlage. Fitted on its Nomos 20mm strap with a signed buckle.

A great and unusual alternative for a dive watch by a fantastic German brand with a brilliant movement inside, a lot of value for the money compared to some of the Swiss options. Such a subtle dial that looks black in most lights, but if you catch it in certain lights the dial becomes a faint blue, truly stunning in person.
