A 2017 Autodromo Group B Automatic featuring a spectacular one-of-a-kind custom paint splatter dial, hand-painted by renowned independent dial artist Chris Alexander of The Dial Artist Ltd. Inspired by the legendary Group B rally cars of the 1980s, its distinctive 39mm tonneau-shaped case combines brushed stainless steel with a lightweight titanium chassis, creating a wonderfully angular and exceptionally slim 9.5mm profile. The striking multicoloured dial transforms Autodromo's iconic Lancia 037-inspired instrument layout into a vibrant piece of wearable art, blending motorsport heritage with contemporary artistic expression. Inside sits the dependable high-beat Miyota Calibre 9015 automatic movement. Complete with two original Autodromo nylon straps, presentation box and paperwork, this is a wonderfully unusual and genuinely unique timepiece, combining bold automotive-inspired design, independent artistry and plenty of personality.

Description

Here we have a fun, unique  2017 Autodromo Group B Custom Paint Splatter Dial, hand-painted by The Dial Artist Ltd, an independent creative horological atelier founded by artist Chris Alexander. He holds a Master's in Design from Grey's School of Art and established the company in 2017, after more than 20 years in the creative industries. His abstract, colourful designs draw inspiration from street art, pop culture, abstract expressionism, and his childhood in South Africa. Chris offers one-of-a-kind, hand-painted custom watch dials for customer-owned timepieces. Featuring a 39mm tonneau-shaped case made with lightweight bimetal construction of brushed stainless steel and a Titanium chassis. Angular facets and uniform vertical brushing on all sides meet sharp edges, while a 50.5mm lug-to-lug length and an ultra-slim 9.5mm case thickness give the watch a remarkably sleek yet commanding presence on the wrist. It features 20mm fixed pass-through lugs integrated directly into the chassis for a seamless aesthetic. On the right side, an angular, signed crown sits neatly integrated into the case band. A smooth, flat Titanium bezel holds a sharp, bevel-edged sapphire crystal above a highly bespoke, custom paint splatter dial. The dial itself is a striking two-level automotive layout, inspired by the tachometer of the legendary Lancia 037 rally car, featuring an outer 60-minute chapter ring and a raised central "island". High-contrast raised baton indices mark the five-minute increments, surrounding distinctive instrument-style hands that replicate the dashboard gauges of iconic 1980s motorsport vehicles. On the reverse, a lightweight screw-down Titanium case back is cleanly engraved with the model family and its individual production number. Inside beats a reliable, high-beat Japanese automatic Miyota Calibre 9015 movement, featuring 24 jewels and smooth self-winding performance. The watch comes with two 20mm Autodromo Nylon passthrough straps and a double-sided signed buckle, and includes its original Autodromo presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

I absolutely love watches that are a little bit different, and this Autodromo is certainly that. The Group B is already a seriously cool watch in its own right, with its fantastic 1980s rally car inspiration, angular case and wonderfully retro proportions. But what really makes this one special is that incredible custom dial by Chris Alexander of The Dial Artist. The colourful paint splatter design is just brilliant, and I love how it transforms an already distinctive watch into something completely unique. There's something really fun about having a watch that's genuinely one of a kind, especially when it's been created by an independent artist with such a recognisable style. If you're after something a bit quirky that you're unlikely to see on anyone else's wrist, this is a fantastic option. Snap it up and add it to your colleciton today!
