The Watch

Here we have a 2016 Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Gravity Limited Edition of 250 pieces. The 43mm stainless steel case is expertly polished and satin-brushed, and a lug-to-lug length of 51mm and a case thickness of 16mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a signed crown. Its thin bezel holds the high domed sapphire crystal AR coated that provides a window into the incredible dial, made up of an off-centred white lacquered dial at 2 o’clock, with a blue minute track and Roman numeral indices, yellow gold-plated hands are complemented by a sub-second dial at 4 o’clock 60-second numerals and gold-plated hands.  You can see the exquisite finishing on the Main plate with Côtes de Genève, while other bridges are sandblasted, and brushed with polished chamfered accents. On show the beating heart of the watch between 6 and 8 o’clock. It was the very first movement to feature a full silicium assortment and oscillator, it is a glass-like substance 3 times lighter than steel and does not require frequent lubrication. This low mass means that it is very accurate, on the reverse we have a screwed-down exhibition case back of sapphire crystal showcasing the continued excellent Côtes de Genève finishing in a spiral wave pattern. The movement featured is an in-house automatic Manufacture ML230, 35 jewels, beating at 18,000 beats per hour, the skeletonised signed rotor has the same exquisite finishing. They have minimised the number of components to 188, providing a clean aesthetic and enhanced reliability. The watch comes paired with a 21mm Crocodile black strap with a signed PVD coated pin buckle, included is also another 21mm Maurice Lacroix strap and deployment buckle, and this watch is sold with its original Maurice Lacroix box and Maurice Lacroix paperwork.

Personal Note

There's "Maurice Lacroix" and then there's "Maurice Lacroix Masterpieces", truly on a different level the same way Seiko and Grand Seiko are! This Limited Edition Gravity from 2016 is incredible both on and off the wrist and demands attention with its beautiful finishing on the open work and front balance, you just can't take your eyes away from it. I wouldn't hesitate to book an appointment to come and see this one for yourself in the metal.

The Brand

The Maurice Lacroix brand was launched in 1975 by Desco von Schulthess in Zurich. Desco, founded in 1889 is better known for its Silk trade business. They branched out in the luxury watch market in 1946 representing brands including Heuer and Jaeger-LeCoultre. Desco was integrated into the DKSH Group in 2008 when the group took over the majority shareholding of Maurice Lacroix and its watch manufacturing facility in Canton Jura.
