Description

Here we have a rarely seen 2016 Edox Hydro Sub North Pole Automatic Limited Edition of 350 pieces. Inspired by their 1963 Edox Hydro-Sub, Austrian free diver Christian Redl famously wore the Hydro-Sub model during his record-breaking free dive under the North Pole ice cap in 2015, where the water temperature was -2 °C, and the above-ground temperature was -30 C or lower. Featuring a brushed stainless steel asymmetric cushion case that comfortably sits on your wrist with tapered lugs. Its polished, chamfered edge flows across its curved flanks towards a lug-to-lug length of 49mm and a case thickness of 14mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, at 4 o’clock, a screw-down, deep-knurled crown, protected by a bright orange Master Lock sliding shield, was used to prevent unforeseen knocks and movement. A deep knurled 120-click unidirectional bezel features a blue insert with a 60-minute dive scale in silver. A scalloped stainless steel ring holds an AR-coated sapphire crystal above a sand-grain-textured blue dial. A white minute chapter ring surrounds orange outlined baton indexes filled with Super-LumiNova, marking the hours. At 3 o’clock, a framed date window. Bright orange baton hands filled with Super-LumiNova are complemented by an orange tapered second hand. At noon, we have the Edox Chronometer Automatic motif, and at 6 o’clock, Hydro Sub N Pole High-Pressure Resistant 1640FT/500M completes this rugged dive watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case back engraved with the watch's details and a world map showing the North Pole, commemorating the North Pole Expedition. Inside an automatic Edox Cal. 802, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. This COSC Certified movement is based on the Sellita SW200. It comes paired with a 3-link Edox brushed stainless steel bracelet secured by a signed deployant clasp and flip-lock; all links are included, plus an orange Edox rubber strap and pin buckle and a 22mm NATO strap. This watch is sold with its original Edox soft fabric box, springbar removal tool and paperwork.

About Edox

The Edox watch company was founded in 1884 by Christian Ruefly-Flury, a watchmaker in Biel-Bienne. In 1900, he chose “the Hour Glass” as the logo of Edox watches. In 1921, after the death of Christian Ruefly-Flury, the company was taken over by Robert Haufmann Hug. In 1950, Edox moved into new and much larger production premises. In 1983, Victor Strambini took over the control of the company by buying shares from ASUAG, and he then moved the company to the Jura region of Switzerland. Since then, Edox has been a family-owned, independent watch company. In 1998, Edox launched the world’s slimmest calendar watch. In 2019, they celebrated their 135th anniversary.
