Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original box or paperwork. The watch comes paired with its original 20mm strap. The watch comes from Circa. 2016 and is sold in a worn condition, but as you can see it is as good as new. The watch comes with our 12-Months Warranty.

The Watch

In 2015 fifty years after stopping production, they created their first watches and cases. To test their endurance a British mountaineer Jon Gupta has been wearing a prototype of the DENC053 in the snowy Alps, he asked Dennison to engrave his blood group on the side of the watch in case of an emergency. Our 2016 Dennison Automatic DENCO53 takes its design cues from the Dennison Aquatite expedition watches of the 1950s. The configuration of this watch has clearly taken inspiration from the  Tudor Oysterdate of the 1950s. The 38mm satin-finished stainless steel case is made in England on some of their original machinery. A lug to lug length of 47.5mm and a case thickness of 12mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a screw-down Dennison embossed crown. The smooth bezel holds slightly domed plexiglass above a Swiss-made honeycomb textured black dial. Applied dagger and Arabic numeral indexes mark the hours. At 3 o’clock a framed date window. Elegant dauphine hands have SuperLumiNova infill complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand. At 12 o’clock we have an embossed Dennison with England underneath, at 6 o’clock we have Automatic. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic ETA 2824-2, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The movement has hacking and quick-set dates for your convenience. The watch comes fitted on its original 20mm leather strap.

Personal Note

Such an interesting one and really had us baffled, if you haven't yet I'd recommend you watch our drop video discussing this watch as I explain it in a little more detail! This is the watch for the guy or girl who wants a really cool watch, with a brand name people in the know will recognsing, but a watch they likely would have never seen before or even knew existed!

The Brand

In 2010 the famous Dennison Trademark was once again registered in England. The company was originally founded by AARON LUFKIN DENNISON who owned Waltham Watch Co. in the US. Later moving to Switzerland where he helped found International Watch Co (IWC) in 1863. Later in 1871, he moved to England where he founded Dennison, Wigley & Company producing high-quality watch cases. In 1895 he passed away leaving the company to his son Franklin who established Dennison Watch Case Co. Ltd in 1905. Over the years they have worked with many brands producing high-quality watch cases such as Rolex, Tudor, Omega, Longines, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Zenith, Smiths, J.W.Benson & Garrard. Famously worn by Sir Edmund Hilary when he successfully summitted Everest in 1953 wearing a Smiths inside a Dennison Aquatite case.
