The Watch
Here we have a 2015 Eterna Adventic with a 41mm satin brushed stainless steel case, horizontal lines across the sides of the case lead you to tapered lugs with a lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 11mm which ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a signed crown, a polished smooth bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal above a striking sector-style silver dial. An outer minute track is precisely printed with applied Roman numeral and chamfer-edged baton indexes to mark the hours within a narrow silver ring, at 3 o’clock a date window. Elegant Alpha hands infilled with luminance complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand, at 12 o’clock we have the Eterna motif and at 6 o’clock “Automatic” is printed completing this stunning vintage-inspired dress watch. On the reverse a screwed-down exhibition case back, inside an automatic Sellita SW200-1, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a 20mm leather strap with a signed folding clasp with a button release and also comes with its Eterna presentation box and paperwork.
Personal Note
Eterna optimises quality and this model is the perfect example of that done in a beautifully refined way, clean and elegant in design whilst still having some flare to the case and lugs which work incredibly well on and off the wrist. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Eterna to any collector looking for a quality watch that doesn't break the bank, so snap this one up and enjoy it!
The Brand
Eterna was founded in Grenchen, Switzerland in 1856 by Josef Girard and Urs Schild, jointly founding the famous ébauche factory. The company was formerly known as Schild Fréres, starting by producing ladies’ wristwatches, in 1905, the company changed its name to Eterna. In 1932, Eterna set up a subsidiary company, ETA SA, which made movements for itself and other Swiss watch companies. In 1948, Eterna created the advanced self-winding movement called the Eterna-Matic automatic, they used five ball bearings that were placed in such a way as to make the movement very efficient, it's popularity was such that in 1948 Eterna adopted the image of five balls as its corporate logo. After 1982, Eterna was sold several times. In 1999, Eterna produced a range of watches marketed under the Porsche Design label, Porsche Design sold Eterna to International Volant Ltd, a subsidiary of China Haidian in June 2012. China Haidian was later renamed in 2014 to Citychamp Watch & Jewellery Group Limited where they continue to own Eterna.
