Description

Here we have a 2014 Marathon General Purpose Mechanical Limited 36mm (Ref. WW194003SS-BEN), a collectable, military-spec field watch that flawlessly balances authentic combat heritage with precise Swiss engineering. Commonly referred to as the Stainless Steel General Purpose Mechanical (GPM-SS), this rare reference belongs to an exclusive limited production run built to rigorous government specifications, with this specific timepiece carrying the individual serial designation A352/600. The highly utilitarian 36mm 316L stainless steel case features a classic, non-reflective asymmetric layout that provides a compact and vintage-proportioned wrist footprint. Boasting a svelte case thickness of 10.5mm and a highly compressed lug-to-lug length of 42mm, its ergonomic geometry ensures a lightweight, low-profile, and completely uncompromised presence on the wrist. The entire case is treated with a subdued, matte Parkerized finish to prevent glare in tactical operations, and is capped by a heavy-duty, pressure-sealed crown that helps guarantee a reliable 50-metre (5 ATM) water resistance rating. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal sits flush over a deeply brooding, matte black military dial. Designed for high-stress operational utility, the layout features a classic dual-scale format displaying both standard 12-hour and inner 24-hour military times. The defining hallmark of this reference is its self-contained illumination system, which utilises specialised tritium gas tubes on the hands and hour markers. Unlike traditional photoluminescent paint, these micro-gas tubes emit a continuous, reliable glow for decades without requiring any external light source to charge. On the reverse, a solid steel case back is deeply stamped with official military-spec metadata. Inside beats the premium, Swiss-made, manually wound ETA Cal. 2801 movement, a legendary, pure hand-wound mechanism praised by field watch purists for its slim profile, durability, and direct mechanical interaction. Operating at a high beat rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour, this 17-jewel calibre provides hacking seconds for precise time synchronisation. This exclusive limited edition comes paired with a rugged 16mm strap setup, completed by a matching stainless steel buckle. The watch comes complete with its presentation box and official paperwork.

About Marathon

Marathon's roots can be linked to the establishment of Weinstrum Watch in 1904, which later became known as Wein Brothers. This company paved the way for the future development of timekeeping instruments that would meet the needs of both civilians and military personnel. In 1939, Morris Wein took a significant step by founding Marathon Watch. He was driven by a commitment to creating outstanding timepieces that would resonate throughout North America. From 1941 onwards, Marathon Watch played a vital role in supporting the Allied Forces during World War II by producing specialised timing instruments. These watches were meticulously designed to meet rigorous military specifications, showcasing a perfect combination of Swiss precision engineering and robust construction needed for critical environments. Designed in Canada, where the company's headquarters is located, Marathon watches are manufactured in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, renowned for its long-standing watch-making tradition. As a result of this meticulous craftsmanship, Marathon watches proudly carry the "Swiss Made" designation on their dials. Today, Marathon remains a family-owned business, with the fourth generation of the Wein family at the helm.
