The Watch
Morten Linde and Jorn Werdelin founded Linde Werdelin in 2002. Based in Switzerland they manufacture high-end watches and digital instruments for skiing and diving. Working with experienced climbers and professional divers their first designs were tested with a free climb of Everest in 2007.
Here we have a 2012 Linde Werdelin Biformeter Founders GMT Watch with polished and brushed stainless steel tonneau case. Limited to 222 pieces, ours is number 94. Its aggressive profile curves over your wrist with integrated lugs. On the right side is a signed screw-down crown protected by crown guards. The bevel-edged sides lead to a wide unidirectional dive bezel with deep engraved numerals and markings for the first 20 minutes. A flat crystal sits above a black dial, an outer 60-minute chapter ring with thick baton indexes marking the hours coated in SuperLumiNova. An inner ring with 24-hour numerals, at 4 o’clock a date window. Thick sword hands have their tips filled with SuperLumiNova. A red tapered GMT hand, unscrew the crown and pull to position 1, turn forward/clockwise to adjust the GMT hand by one-hour increments. Turning the crown backward/counterclockwise will adjust the date. At 12 o’clock the brand motif with text precisely applied. At 6 o’clock “Founders Watch” completes this dynamic tool watch. On the reverse a screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic ETA 2893, 21 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on its Linde Werdelin 32.5mm fitted rubber strap with a signed keeper and buckle. The watch comes with its card & pouch.
Personal Note
I am a huge fan of Linde Werdelin! Whether it be their brand in general or the design ethos which is incredibly unapologetic, I love it all! It may also surprise some of you to know I really enjoy them on the wrist, even on my somewhat smaller wrist I think they look brilliant and Linde Werdelin has really focused on making a big watch wear well, they have nailed that. This Founders GMT is brilliant, it looks great and unquestionably a Linde Werdelin and is still priced super competitively.
