The Watch
Here we have a stunning 2012 H.Moser & Cie E Rose Gold 7-Days 343.505-017 an early “Monard”, now the Endeavour, with a 41mm 18ct Rose Gold round case that flows over your wrist with elegant tapered concave hallmarked lugs and a lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 11mm ensuring a comfortable fit. Sculpted sides flow effortlessly with a signed crown in the centre on the right side, and a smooth bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal above a deep black dial. Applied single and double 18ct Rose Gold baton indexes mark the hours and play with the light as you rotate your wrist; 18ct Rose Gold leaf hands are complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand; at 12 o’clock, we have the H. Moser & Co motif completing this sophisticated contemporary minimalist dress watch. On the reverse, a screwed-down sapphire exhibition case back, engraved with the details of the watch, showcasing the manually wound HMC Cal. 343.505, 26 jewels, beating at a leisurely 18,000 beats per hour; this beautiful hand-finished movement has an in-house Straumann hairspring, a double hairspring that beats in opposite directions, this reduces any external effects on the escapement, and a 7-day power reserve indicator and the movement is tastefully decorated in Moser double stripes. It comes paired with a well-suited aftermarket 20mm leather strap with its original 18ct Rose Gold pin buckle.
Personal Note
'Value' is something I talk about a lot, and it can be difficult to discuss value when talking about a watch that is close to 5 digits in price, but hear me out. This is an early H.Moser & Cie Monard, now known as the Endeavour, powered by the Moser Calibre 343.505, a beautifully finished and impressive 7-day manually wound movement featuring an in-house Straumann hairspring, a double hairspring that beats in opposite directions, which reduces any external effects on the escapement and a power reserve. All of this is housed in a beautiful 18ct rose gold 41mm sculpted case featuring a deep black dial, truly mesmerising on and off the wrist. This is one I would highly recommend booking an appointment to see for yourself, but be warned, you'll likely walk out with it on your wrist, it is that good!
The Brand
Heinrich Moser, born in Schaffhausen, founded H. Moser & Cie. in 1828. As a young entrepreneur, he quickly learnt about the watchmaking profession. He found himself in St. Petersburg and soon became “the specialist” for its aristocracy. They built a factory employing several hundred craftspeople in Switzerland. He produced around 500,000 watches during his lifetime. The watches ranged from three-hand watches to incredible “Grande complications”. Heinrich was passionate and deeply involved in the industrialisation of Schaffhausen, including the building of the first Swiss dam, which featured an innovative hydro-mechanical turbine to produce energy for the machinery used in watch production. Due to the “quartz crisis,” they became a part of the Dixi Mechanique Group. Their original brand name was changed, becoming "Hy Moser & Cie". In 2002, Dr Jürgen Lange and Heinrich Moser's great-grandson, Roger Nicholas Balsiger, founded Moser Schaffhausen AG. In 2005, they built a new factory in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, and H. Moser & Cie's trademark was formally re-launched. The MELB Holding Group is owned by H. Moser & Cie, CEO, the former boss at Audemars Piguet, Georges-Henri Meylan. They have been based in Le Brassus in Switzerland since 2012.
