The Watch
1976 saw François-Paul Journe joining his uncle, a restorer of antique timepieces, in his Parisian workshop. In 1985 he opened his workshop in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris. Shortly after in 1987 they were awarded the Prix de la Fondation de la Vocation Bleustein Blanchet producing a one-off planetary pocket watch. The Chronomètre à Résonance was introduced in 2000, a world exclusive. Their workshop and showroom were moved to central Geneva in the same year. Opened an F.P.Journe boutique in Hong Kong in 2006. 2014 Launched the Élégante electro-mechanical watch and a limited-edition Tourbillon Anniversaire for the brand's tenth anniversary.
Here we have a stunning 2012 F.P.Journe Chronomètre Souverain with a 38mm 18ct Rose Gold case. In 2005, the Chronomètre Souverain won the ‘Favourite Men’s Watch’ award at the GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève). Inspired by Chronomètre marine clocks of the past. The beautifully sculpted case gently curves over your wrist with a lug to lug length of 44mm and a case thickness of just 8.3mm ensuring a comfortable fit. On the right side is a stepped crown with flowing engraving to help your grip. The thin smooth bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal above a striking silver dial with the center having a Clous de Paris textured pattern. An outer minute track is precisely executed with decorative embossed Arabic numeral indices. At 3 o’clock you find the power reserve indicator scale that runs in reverse from 56 hours to zero when fully wound showing the number of hours since you wound the watch rather than how many hours are left until you need to wind the watch. This idea was used on marine chronometer clocks. Between the 7 and 8, we have the off-center small seconds with a fine print seconds track. Signature F.P Journe's hands are thermally blued which is an attractive contrast to the silver dial. At 12 o’clock F.P.Journe Invenit et Fecit which means “invented and made”. On the reverse, a screwed-down exhibition case back with sapphire crystal showcasing the exquisite in-house Manually Wound F.P.Journe Cal. 1304 in 18ct Rose Gold. 22 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. Twin barrels work together to power the movement. Decorated in Côte de Genève with polished screws. Around the edge of the case back we have an intricate engraving of the watch details. The watch comes fitted on its F.P.Journe supple leather strap with curved ends that fit the watch perfectly complete with an 18ct Rose Gold signed buckle. The watch also comes with its F.P.Journe presentation box and papers.
Personal Note
This is easily one of the most incredible watches we have had the privilege of selling here at KibbleWatches, again a new level for what we hope to provide along with the usual offerings we are used to. This sold before it had a chance to hit the website, no surprise to most, so get in contact if you have an F.P. Journe you'd like to sell today!
