The Watch

Here we have a 2011 Sinn 358 50-Year Anniversary Jubilaum Edition limited to 500 pieces, the 42mm satin brushed stainless steel case curves over your wrist with finely tapered lugs, with a lug-to-lug length of 48mm and a case thickness of 15mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. The case design has incorporated dehumidifying technology to help prevent fogging. Down the right side, we have the chronograph pushers and a signed screw-down crown protected by crown guards in the centre, a bevel-edged smooth brushed bezel holds a sapphire crystal AR coated on both sides above an electroplated charcoal grey dial, making it resistant to UV discolouration over time. A minute track is precisely executed with Arabic numerals coated in luminance marking the hours, at 3 o’clock a stop-minute 60-minute register, at 6 o’clock a date window and finally, at 9 o’clock the sweeping 60-second register. Elegant syringe hands coated in luminance and complemented by an arrow-pointed chronograph hand. At 12 o’clock we have the Sinn motif and at 6 o’clock 1961-2011 celebrate their 50th anniversary. On the reverse a screw-down sapphire exhibition case back showcasing the automatic Sinn Cal. SZ05, 27 jewels beating at 28,800 beats per hour based on the ETA/Valjoux 7750 movement. The watch comes fitted on a 20mm Sinn stainless steel bracelet with a hidden deployment clasp, plus a 21mm leather strap with a signed pin buckle, and the watch comes with its Sinn presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

Sinn has always offered over-engineered and incredibly well-built watches, this 358 50-Year Anniversary Jubilaum Edition is no exception! Featuring a striking sunburst silver dial that plays with the light beautifully, the weight on the wrist is amazing and you know you're wearing a Sinn! This is one to snap up if you are in the market for a Sinn Chronograph!

The Brand

In 1961 the pilot and flight instructor Helmet Sinn founded the Sinn watch company in Frankfurt am Main. They were principally making watches that gave the user maximum functionality at a reasonable price. His Pilot watches became popular with his fellow pilots as they appreciated their build quality and precision. In 1985, Professor Dr Reinhard Furrer, a German physicist, could be seen wearing the 140 S model on his wrist during the D-1 space lab mission. They continued their exploration of space with the 142 S in 1992. This watch was worn by Dietrich Flade during the Mir-92 mission. Later in 1993, the 142 space chronograph went on the second German Spacelab mission, the D-2. The mission was in space for 10 days, orbiting the Earth 160 times whilst onboard the NASA Space Shuttle, Colombia. SINN was bought by Lothar Schmidt an engineer in 1994 renaming the company ‘Sinn Spezialuhren GmbH’. Over the years Schmidt used his engineering background to develop Ar-dehumidifying technology which is resistant to temperature. In 2011 they celebrated their 50th anniversary.
