Here we have a 2011 Ochs Und Junior Date Pantone 4525 with a 42mm Grade 5 Titanium 2-part case and crown designed by Ludwig Oechslin that sits flat over your wrist with stubby round-ended lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 42mm and a case thickness of 9mm ensures a comfortable fit. On the right side is a crown with deep knurling for extra grip. A smooth rounded bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal above the black dial with batons at each 10-minute mark infilled with Pantone 4525 SuperLumiNova X1 and an intriguing inner spiral of 31 holes used for reading the date, and time as each hole is set at the 2-minute mark. Therefore the minutes can be read as each hole for even minutes and the gap between uneven minutes. The rotating disc underneath the dial has a precisely placed curved dash so it can change effortlessly. Elegant Lugwig Oeschslin-designed hands are complemented by a sweeping second-hand coated in Pantone 4525 SuperLumiNova X1. On the reverse a screwed-down case back, inside an automatic ETA Cal. 2824-2, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes paired on a 22mm rubber strap with a Titanium pin buckle and the watch comes with original Ochs Und Junior “minimal” packaging and paperwork.
An incredible concept and execution Ochs Und Juniors had for telling the date on a watch as easily and clearly as the time, with no distraction from the dial or time itself. This is a watch all about the design and concept, in a watch world that feels constantly bombarded with a new brand and new model that looks painfully like something else, this is refreshing!
Ludwig Oechslin, a master watchmaker, and Kurt König, the managing director of Embassy, founded Ochs und Junior AG in 2006. Ulysse Nardin became shareholders in 2012. The company headquarters and production are based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. In 2019, Beat Weinmann left and was replaced by Marc Bernhardt as the managing director. Today, the family-run company is solely owned by Dr Ludwig Oechslin and Prof Kornelia Imesch. Their creations specialise in astronomical complications, and their moon phase is one of the most accurate in the world, customers can design a watch to their requirements using the website configurator.
