The Watch
Here we have a 2010s SevenFriday M2/01 "Jump Hour" Black Automatic with a 48mm sandblasted black PVD-coated stainless steel square cushion style case, industrial machines and power tools inspire its distinctive design. A lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 14.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the left side is a signed crown with deep knurling for extra grip, and on the right side, we have a SevenFriday screwed-down plaque. A domed hardened K1 mineral glass AR coated sits above an open dial which is made up of a series of layers, 1st layer has an open arc showing the black jumping hour disc with a sky blue indicator and large white Arabic numerals, 2nd layer has the black rotating minutes with white printed numerals and an arrow indicating the direction of the disc and “Automatic”, 3rd layer in the centre has the black small seconds with white numerals and a long sky blue line, 4th layer has a slatted brushed stainless steel animation ring over the discs and finally the 5th layer is made up of three polished steel supports and the “Seven Friday” across the middle with a sky blue line at its tip indicating the minutes, screws secure the dial construction together in keeping with the industrial machine aesthetic and complete this dynamic industrial-designed timepiece. On the reverse, a screwed-down case back, specifications, and a depiction of the movement, SevenFriday embossed on it. Inside the automatic Miyota Cal. 8215, 21 jewels 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes paired with a 28mm SevenFriday black calf leather strap.
Personal Note
I have owned and sold multiple SevenFriday's over the years and I am strangely drawn to them for their unique design and feel on the wrist, especially at their price point. With the growing interest in independents doing insane things at insane prices, these SevenFridays feel even more like a great choice to get something truly unique and quirky without breaking the bank.
The Brand
SevenFriday AG was established in 2012 by Swiss-born entrepreneur Daniel Niederer and his counterpart Arnaud Duval. Their designs are usually taken from industrial elements such as engines, wheels and machines. Since 2005 Dr Salvadó has been creating, repairing and selling one-off custom wristwatches and rare timepieces. Since 2016 they have moved from bricks and mortar sales premises instead of opting to sell through their online store.
