The Watch

Here we have a 2010 Oris Classic Worldtimer GMT Small Seconds 7494 with a 39.5mm polished and brushed stainless steel case that curves over your wrist with thick drilled lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, we have a signed screw-down crown with deep knurling for extra grip and protected by crown guards, below a pusher to increase the hourly hand (+ 1 hour) and on the left side a pusher to decrease the hourly hand (- 1 hour). A smooth polished bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal above the black sector dial, an outer minute chapter ring surrounds applied Arabic numerals and pips coated in Super LumiNova, adding dimension and interest to the dial, at 3 o’clock a large ring with 12-hour numerals and a window indicating daytime and nighttime hours, at 9 o’clock the small seconds register with a red hand, between the 4 and 5 a red triangle + and between the 7 and 8 a red triangle - showing you which pusher to press to set the particular hour when you are travelling through different time zones. Slender sword hands are infilled with Super LumiNova. At 12 o’clock we have the Oris motif and at 6 o’clock 30 Jewels and a date window complete this elegant travellers companion. On the reverse a screw-down exhibition case back, inside an automatic Oris Cal. 690, 30 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on its 20mm Oris polished and brushed three-link stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp and flip-lock, all links are included and the watch comes with its Oris presentation box and booklets.

Personal Note

This is another wonderful GMT that stands out amongst the crowd of GMT's as it is so different in design, that is what we love at KibbleWatches and what we try to stock. Plus, being an Oris you can be certain it is of build quality and wears comfortably on the wrist, this watch is no exception and wears incredibly well and looks truly fantastic!

The Brand

Oris was founded by Paul Cattin and George Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein.  They bought a factory and signed a contract with the mayor in 1904. Initially making pocket watches in 1925 they started to add bracelets to their pocket watches which soon transitioned into the wristwatch. By 1929, they had a total of six factories. At the end of the 1960s, Oris became one of the largest watch companies in the world, producing approximately 1.2 million timepieces a year. Dr Rolf Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog headed a management buyout from Swatch Group in 1982. Unhappy with the way the Group was running things. Oris SA was born as an independent Swiss watch brand. 2002 saw their distinctive Red Rotor become an Oris registered Trademark.
