The Watch
Here we have a 2010s Louis Vuitton Speedy Duo-Jet GMT on Bracelet Q2371 with a square 34mm polished stainless steel case that curves over your wrist with pronounced angled drilled lugs, giving the watch a unique profile, and a lug-to-lug length of 41.5mm and a case thickness of 9.5mm ensures a comfortable fit. On the right side is a signed octagonal crown, and a flat sapphire crystal sits above a textured blue dial. An outer chapter ring has a ribbed pattern in contrast to the repeating patterned dial. The GMT configuration consists of two polished ring dials, one with Roman numeral and baton indexes marking the hours, yellow hands sit proudly in the centre and the second with Arabic numerals and baton indexes marking the hours, polished hands sit proudly in the centre, a concentric circular pattern completes the look. At 12 o’clock we have the Louis Vuitton motif and at 6 o’clock GMT complete this sophisticated travel companion. On the reverse a screwed-down case back with the details of the watch engraved around its edge and a square checker pattern in the centre, inside a Quartz movement. The watch comes paired with a 22mm polished and brushed stainless steel bracelet with a Louis Vuitton-signed butterfly clasp and will fit up to a 7-inch wrist.
Personal Note
A watch that certainly won't be for everyone but this Louis Vuitton Speedy Duo-Jet GMT on Bracelet offers something quirky and different from a branded name like Louis Vuitton at not an insane price! Plus the complication is useful and nicely done, the design is interesting and the fit and feel on the wrist is great.
The Brand
In 1854 Louis Vuitton was established with the opening of the box-making and packing workshop at 4, Rue Neuve-des-Capucines. It wasn’t until 2002 that they ventured into the luxury watch market with the launch of the Tambour fine watch collection with the chronometer-certified LV 277 Chronograph, the first watch inspired by the Louis Vuitton Cup. In 2008 they opened workshops in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, a town famous for its watchmaking expertise; over 90% of the parts that are assembled there are Swiss-made. Movements are sourced principally from ETA, Dubois-Dépraz, Jaquet and Zenith, a sister company within the LVMH group which makes the legendary “El Primero” chronograph. In 2011 LVMH took over movement-maker La Fabrique du Temps. Later in 2012, LVMH took over dial-maker Léman Cadrans extending their ability to source parts and manufacture watches in an efficient manner.
