The Watch

The TAG Heuer Monaco was made famous by Steve McQueen in the film Le Mans in 1971; since then, this has been an absolute icon and rightly so! Love or hate TAG, respect for Monaco is universal within the watch world! Here we have a 2010 TAG Heuer Monaco Automatic Black CW2110-0 with a 38mm polished and brushed square stainless steel case, stubby lugs and a chamfered edge lead to a lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist. Down the right side, we have sloped chronograph pushers and a signed crown in the centre. The bevel-edged flat hesalite crystal sits above the black dial. An outer minute track with large polished applied steel indexes marks the hours; at 3 o'clock, a recessed square sub-seconds register; at 6 o’clock, a recessed square 12-hour register, including the date window; and finally, at 9 o’clock, a recessed square 30-minute register. Polished steel sword hands have luminescence infill; at 12 o’clock, we have the “Monaco” and TAG Heuer motif. On the reverse, a screwed-down case back with deep engraving, inside an automatic TAG Heuer Cal. 17 movement (based on the ETA 2894-2), 37 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a TAG Heuer 22mm leather strap with a buckle; the watch also comes with its TAG Heuer presentation box and paperwork, including a 2019 TAG Heuer service.

Personal Note

A design icon, the TAG Heuer Monaco, love or hate TAG Heuer almost everyone can agree on the Monaco! This black dial reference CW2111-0 features an acrylic crystal which adds to the vintage aesthetic and appeal for me personally, the fit on the wrist is perfect and sits comfortably, all powered by the TAG Heuer Cal. 17. I would not hesitate to add this to your collection, the value for money is undeniable at just over £2,000 with its box, paperwork and service history!

The Brand

Edouard Heuer founded The Heuer Watch Company in 1860 in St. Imier, Switzerland. Chronographs have been the mainstay for Heuer and later TAG Heuer. It features many models and configurations, expanding the possibilities to the fullest. In 1958, Jack Heuer, Edouard’s son, joined the company. In 1962, the first generation of Autavia was launched. Famously worn in the 1970s by Formula One drivers such as Derek Bell, Jacky Ickx, Emerson Fittipaldi, Clay Regazzoni, Mario Andretti, and many more. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton S.A. offered a bid in 1999 that was accepted by TAG Heuer.
