Description

This is a 2003 Tissot Seastar 1000 Automatic 44mm (Ref. A464/564), a powerfully built and highly distinctive Swiss tool watch that marks the dawn of Tissot's modern dive-watch era. This beautifully executed timepiece represents the highly coveted, first-generation execution of the modern Seastar line. The commanding 44mm 316L stainless steel case introduces a chunky, architectural layout that wears like a beautifully engineered vault. With a substantial 15mm case thickness and a commanding 52.5mm lug-to-lug length, it delivers an incredibly authoritative, robust presence on the wrist. The case sides feature distinct, sculpted grooves, topped by a unique, highly tactile unidirectional rotating dive bezel with an embossed, high-relief 60-minute dive scale. A signed screw-down crown and a heavy-duty screw-down exhibition case back help secure a robust, professional-grade 300-metre (1000ft / 30 ATM) water resistance rating. A deeply domed sapphire crystal sits over a striking dial layout that leans into pure tool-watch utility. The high-visibility dial features unique, oversized applied geometric hour markers and a clean date aperture neatly positioned at 3 o'clock. The high-contrast aesthetic uses a generous coating of premium Swiss luminous material on the skeletonised hands and indices for exceptional low-light legibility, while the sweeping seconds hand features a stylised Tissot "T" counterweight. On the reverse, the sapphire display window partially reveals the mechanics beating underneath. Inside lies the premium, Swiss-made automatic ETA Cal. 2824-2 movement, a legendary industry workhorse running at a high beat frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz). Utilising 25 jewels, this self-winding calibre delivers hacking seconds and quickset date functionality. The watch comes with its original fitted Tissot 22mm strap, a signed buckle, and a 22mm Tissot bracelet without end links. It comes with its presentation box and official paperwork.

Personal Note

I absolutely love the design of these early Tissot Seastar 1000s, and I genuinely think Tissot would have a massive hit on its hands if it brought this design back today. Perhaps just a tad smaller! There's so much to like here, from the wonderfully chunky case to that incredible bezel with its raised markings. But for me, the dial is the real star of the show. Those unusual geometric indexes, skeletonised hands and the little splash of red from the “Seastar 1000” text are just brilliant. That red script in particular is to die for! It's such a distinctive design, and one that I think has aged incredibly well. Add in the trusty ETA automatic movement and proper dive-watch credentials, and you've got an awful lot of watch for the money. A seriously cool bit of early-2000s Tissot that deserves far more attention. Snap it up and add it to your collection today!

About Tissot

The Swiss luxury watch company Tissot from Le Locle, Switzerland, was established in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. Under Charles-Emile’s direction, they manufactured pocket watches with parts from Russia and the United States. In 1915, the company began producing wristwatches. Between 1920 and 1977, Tissot produced its movements. In 1930, to survive the 1929 crash and economic crisis, they agreed with Omega to form the SSIH Group, which 53 years later became the Swatch Group.
