2002 Piaget Upstream 18ct Yellow Gold Automatic 27000

A 2002 Piaget Upstream Reference 27000 in 18ct yellow gold, an unmistakably bold expression of early-2000s luxury from one of Switzerland's finest maisons. Combining its distinctive rectangular case with Piaget's ingenious patented folding bezel-clasp system, the Upstream offers an innovative take on the integrated sports watch that remains unlike anything else on the market. The vertically brushed silver dial and warm yellow gold case create a sophisticated yet contemporary aesthetic, while the automatic in-house Calibre 504P ensures dependable everyday performance. Complete with its original Piaget box and paperwork, plus an additional rubber strap for a more casual look, this is an increasingly uncommon Piaget that perfectly showcases the brand's flair for elegant, unconventional design.

Description

Here we have a 2002 Piaget Upstream 18ct Yellow Gold Automatic 27000, featuring a distinctively styled 33mm rectangular 18ct Yellow Gold case. Bold, contemporary lines lead to integrated, broad shoulders with a lug-to-lug length of 40mm and a case thickness of 9mm, offering a strong, architectural presence on your wrist. On the right side is a crown protected by crown guards. A smooth bezel with attractive grooves frames the case, which features a patented front-folding deployant bezel mechanism where the watch clasp is integrated directly into the upper case frame, securing a flat crystal above a clean, modern silver vertically brushed dial. Large, dynamic Arabic "12" and inward-facing indexes mark the hours, brushed and polished, catching the light as you rotate your wrist. A discreet date window at  6 o’clock. Elegant facet hands sit majestically in the centre of this striking dial. On the reverse, a satin-brushed, screwed-down case back, inside an automatically wound Piaget Cal. 504P. This reliable movement builds on Piaget's legacy of ultra-thin watchmaking, providing modern convenience with an integrated date function. It comes paired with its Piaget 20mm leather strap and an 18ct yellow gold signed slider, plus an additional generic rubber strap, which changes the look completely. This watch comes with its original Piaget box (flaking) and original paperwork.

Personal Note

The Upstream has always been one of those Piagets that I think deserves far more attention than it gets. The first thing everyone wants to try is the ingenious front-opening bezel-clasp system. Pull to release, and the bezel swings open to reveal the case and allow you to take the watch on and off. It's a brilliant piece of engineering and one of those little party tricks that never fails to raise a smile. What makes this example even more appealing is the fact that it's crafted in solid 18ct yellow gold. These are seldom seen compared to their steel counterparts, and finding one in such clean condition, complete with its original box and paperwork, makes it an especially attractive proposition for a collector. I would not hesitate to add this fantastic watch to your collection today!

About Piaget

Piaget was founded in 1874 in the small Swiss village of La Côte-aux-Fées. Georges-Édouard Piaget had a passion for watches from a young age. He created movements from his workshop. It wasn’t until his son Timothée Piaget took over that the business saw a huge expansion, building a new manufacturing facility. In 1943, Piaget became a registered trademark. Creating ultra-thin watches with their 9P Calibre, which was an incredible 2mm thick, a world record that they still hold. Today Piaget is a subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont group. This group includes Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, IWC Schaffhausen, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Montblanc, Dunhill, and Chloé.
