The Watch

Here we have a 2000s TAG Heuer Monza Chronograph Automatic CR2113-0 inspired by a Heuer watch designed in 1933, it was a manual wound single pusher through the crown chronograph, this 37mm cushion stainless steel case is similar to the original except that one was only 33mm. Polished sides and brushed tops transition perfectly with crisp bevelled edges, and a lug-to-lug length of 44mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. Down the right side, an onion crown with the two piston-style pushers on either side. A flat sapphire crystal sits above the black dial, an outer minute track is precisely executed with lume pips surrounding Arabic 12 and facet-edged indexes marking the hours, as you rotate your wrist the dial and indexes catch the light perfectly. Between the 4 and 5 a date window. At 3 o’clock 60 seconds continuous register, at 6 o’clock a twelve-hour register, and finally at 9 o’clock a 30-minute register, each recessed in a cushion shape like the case. The dial is well-balanced and easy to read with the large registers. Sword’s hands are filled with LumiNova. Printed at 12 o’clock “Monza” “TAG HEUER”. On the reverse, a screwed-down case back with “Monza TAG HEUER” engraved into it, inside an automatic TAG Heuer Cal. 17, 37 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, a module is added to the base ETA 2894-2. The watch comes fitted on a 20mm leather strap and its original TAG Heuer 20mm leather strap with a signed deployment clasp.

Personal Note

This TAG Heuer Monza reference CR2113-0 falls into the camp of incredibly well-priced neo-vintage TAG Heuers that are often overlooked and underappreciated! The value for money is undeniable and the design is truly fantastic both on and off the wrist. It comes with its original funky TAG Heuer strap, but personally, the classic black I have put the watch on really suits the design and brings it together!

The Brand

Edouard Heuer founded The Heuer Watch Company in 1860 in St. Imier, Switzerland. Chronographs have been the mainstay for Heuer and later TAG Heuer. Featuring many models and configurations, expanding the possibilities to the full. In 1958 Jack Heuer, Edouard’s son, joined the company. In 1962 the first generation of Autavia was launched. Famously worn in the 1970s by Formula One drivers such as Derek Bell, Jacky Ickx, Emerson Fittipaldi, Clay Regazzoni and Mario Andretti, and many more. In 1999 TAG Heuer accepted a bid from LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton S.A.
