The Watch
This 2000s Heuer Carrera Automatic 1964 Re-Edition WS2111 celebrates the introduction of the Carrera 3648 in 1964 by Jack Heuer; it is part of the Heuer Classics range and is the re-edition of the Carrera 3648. The polished 35mm stainless steel case has bevel-edged tapered angular lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 44mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. We have a large signed crown on the right side with deep knurling. A slim bezel holds a domed plexiglass crystal, and the glossy black dial has a white outer decimal chapter ring surrounding a 60-minute rail track Tritium pips above applied polished Arabic numerals, steel batons marking the hours. At 3 o’clock, a colour-matched date window. At 12 o’clock, the Heuer logo and at 6 o’clock, the smiley “automatic” signifying an ETA movement that perfectly finished off this classic dial. On the reverse, Heuer is engraved in the centre with the reference numbers below, inside an automatic ETA Cal. 2824-2, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour; the movement has the quickest date, hacking seconds and hand winding for your convenience. It comes paired with a 19mm Italian leather strap with its original Heuer buckle.
Personal Note
These TAG Heuer Carrera 1964 Re-Editions are some of the best releases from the brand in the early 2000s. Coming in at 35mm and featuring the classic Carrera case, it is an honest 'modern' time-only interpretation of the vintage classic. I would not hesitate to add this to your collection today, it punches well above its price-tag in my opinion!
The Brand
Edouard Heuer founded The Heuer Watch Company in 1860 in St. Imier, Switzerland. Chronographs have been the mainstay for Heuer and later TAG Heuer. In 1963, the first generation of Carrera was launched. Singer made the dials, and Valjoux made the movements just like the Daytona. The name Carrera comes from Carrera Panamericana, a legendary race across Mexico. In 1999, TAG Heuer accepted a bid from LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton S.A.
