The Watch

Here we have a 2000s Piaget Upstream Automatic on Bracelet 27050 with a distinctive and unusual screw hinged tonneau shaped 34mm brushed stainless steel case that opens out to allow you to take the watch on and off, cleverly acting as an integrated bracelet clasp, the engraved “Upstream” can be seen when opened. The stubby, thick lugs have a lug-to-lug length of 40mm and a case thickness of just 9mm, ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a signed hexagonal crown protected by crown guards. The polished rectangular bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal above the silver dial. Futuristic-styled applied numerals in black explode from the centre inner minute track marking the hours; at 6 o’clock, a framed date window and elegant Dauphine hands are complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand. At noon, we have the Piaget motif to complete this unusual dress watch. On the reverse, a screwed-down case back, inside an automatic Piaget Cal. 504P, 26 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour, comprising 211 components, measures just 3.5mm thick, beautifully decorated in Côtes de Genève. The watch comes paired with its thick 20mm brushed stainless steel bracelet that has rectangular outer links and a three-square design; brushed and polished edges in the centre play with the light as you rotate your wrist. This watch is sold with its Piaget box and Piaget Service papers.

Personal Note

When it comes to innovation in the watch world we are often left wanting more, but this Piaget from the 2000s was incredibly unique when released and still is 20-odd years later. This is the Piaget Upstream featuring a unique case and clasp construction allowing for a perfectly seamless bracelet design, best to see the video linked under "Points of Mention" to get a true sense of how this operates. The watch provides far more than just a cool party trick, the design is a morph of sport and dress and the brick bracelet is super comfortable on the wrist. Don't hesitate to book an appointment and see this one in the metal for yourself!

The Brand

Piaget was founded in 1874  in the small Swiss village of La Côte-aux-Fées. Georges-Édouard Piaget had a passion for watches from a young age. He created movements from his workshop. It wasn’t until his son Timothée Piaget took over that the business saw a huge expansion, building a new manufacturing facility. In 1943, Piaget became a registered trademark. They created ultra-thin watches with their 9P Calibre, which was an incredible 2mm thick, a world record that they still hold. Today, Piaget is a subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont group. This group includes Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, IWC Schaffhausen, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Montblanc, Dunhill, and Chloé.
