The Watch

Here we have a curvaceous 2000s Hermès Kepler Chronograph Automatic KP1.910 with a polished 39mm stainless steel case that comfortably curves over your wrist with thick sculpted flared lugs. The smooth, rounded flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 44.5mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. Down the right side, we have the long polished chronograph pushers and a signed crown in the centre with deep knurling for grip. A domed, smooth, polished bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal above a crisp white dial. An outer minute chapter ring with lume pips is precisely executed surrounding black outlined Roman numeral indices marking the hours. At 3 o’clock, we have the small seconds; at 6 o’clock, a 12-hour register; and finally, at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute register, each with black numerals and black stick hands, between the four and five, a colour-matched date window. The Hermès Paris motif is found at noon with “Automatic” sitting above the 12-hour register, slender baton hands lume filled are complemented by a tapered chronograph hand, completing this striking sports chronograph. On the reverse, a screwed-down exhibition case back engraved with KP1.910, inside an automatic ETA Cal. 2894-2, 37 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. This modular chronograph based on the ETA 2892-A2 has a Hermès signed rotor. The watch comes paired with a quality quick-release 20mm Molquin strap secured by a signed pin buckle, plus an additional 20mm leather strap in the box. It comes with its Hermès Service box and unused Hermès scarf.

Personal Note

Hermès typically isn't the first brand collectors think of when considering a new watch, but I highly suspect this Kepler Chronograph would have made you stop in your tracks and take another close look... Featuring a unique 39mm case, powered by an automatic ETA calibre 2894-2 and a bold white dial with Roman numerals, this reference KP1.910 packs a punch, especially for the price! I would not hesitate to book an appointment to come and see this one in the metal for yourself, though be warned, you'll likely walk out with a big smile on your face, a fashionable Hermès scarf (yes, this includes an unused Hermès scarf) around your neck and the watch on wrist!

The Brand

The luxury brand Hermès was founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermès, who opened a workshop in rue Basse-du-Rempart, Paris, France. Initially, luxury accessories, equipment, and jewellery were sold to the equestrian world. In 1912, he built his first watch as a present for his son Emile Hermès’ daughter; it wasn’t until 1928 that they produced their first commercial watches with the help of Movado. In 1978, they moved the “La Montre Hermès” “The Hermès Watch” division to Biel, Switzerland. They are part of the prestigious Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie and are still majority family-owned through their holding company H51, and the Arnault family, who own LVMH, own 20%.
