The Watch
Here we have a 2000s Ebel Classic Wave Quartz 1255F41.1 with a curvaceous 37mm brushed stainless steel and yellow gold plated case that flows over your wrist towards the soft rounded lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 43mm and a case thickness of just 7mm ensures a comfortable fit. On the right side is a Gold plated crown that sits recessed into the case, and five yellow gold-plated screws surround a Yellow Gold-plated bezel that holds a flat sapphire crystal above a white dial. An outer minute track with hour pips surround attractive applied Yellow Gold-toned Roman numeral indices marking the hours, adding flair and sophistication, at 3 o’clock a framed date window, and Yellow Gold plated sword hands are complemented by a tapered second hand, at 12 o’clock we have the Ebel motif completing this distinctive dress watch. On the reverse a screwed-down case back engraved with the details of the watch, inside an Ebel Quartz movement. The watch comes paired with its original 20mm Ebel Yellow Gold plated and stainless steel bracelet with a signed hidden deployment clasp, and this watch is sold with its original Ebel presentation box and original unsigned Ebel papers.
Personal Note
Ebel appears to be on the up again, more specifically neo-vintage models in solid gold featuring the El Primero movement, but those models come with a hefty price tag to boot! If you are after that Wave design but in an affordable way, this 37mm model is the perfect one for you and offers a ton of value, snap it up whilst you can!
The Brand
Eugene Blum and Alice Levy, husband and wife, joined their initials together (Eugène Blum Et Lévy) to form the brand name Ebel in 1911. Based in La Chaux de Fonds the company was taken over by their son, Charles in 1932, where he began to concentrate the business branching out overseas before Blum’s grandson Pierre Alain took over. It was at this point, in 1932 that Ebel began creating wristwatches for Cartier. Later Ebel became part of the LVMH Group and then Movado Group by the end of 2003.
