The Watch
Citizen founded the Shokosha Watch Research Institute in 1918. The name originates from a pocket watch it produced in 1924. The Mayor of Tokyo, Mr. Shimpei Goto, named the watch "CITIZEN", in the hopes the watch would become a worldwide success.
Here we have an attractive 2000s Citizen Eco-Drive "Tank" with a 29mm polished stainless steel case. Tapered lugs gently curve over your wrist. A lug to lug length of 40mm and an incredibly thin 4.5mm ensures a comfortable fit. The stepped polished bezel with soft rounded corners holds a flat sapphire crystal. The silver dial textured with vertical lines has fine applied baton indexes marking the hours. Elegant fine pencil hands complete this understated dress watch. Its simplicity and minimalist design add sophistication and flexibility fitting just as well under a shirt cuff or casually with a t-shirt and jeans. At 12 o’clock an applied Citizen Eco-Drive. On the reverse, a screwed-down case back with Stiletto etched into it. Inside a Citizen Eco-Drive. The movement uses the energy of light either natural or artificial to charge solar cells under the dial. The watch comes fitted on a 19mm leather strap.
Personal Note
A very well proportioned, well-designed, and brilliantly executed "Tank" watch! As I always say the "Tank" design works perfectly as a formal watch or as a casual watch with a t-shirt and jeans. This Citizen is no exception, it's just a fantastic steal of a price!
