Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no Omega box or paperwork. The watch comes paired with its original 18mm Omega-signed bracelet. The watch is from Circa. 1999 and is sold in worn condition, but overall very fair condition as you can see. The watch comes with our 12-Months Non-Waterproof Warranty.

The Watch

Formerly known as the La Generale Watch Co. it was founded by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. In 1903 they renamed the company Omega until 1982 when they officially changed their name to Omega SA. They are part of the Swiss Swatch Group. The Omega Speedmaster Triple Calendar was first introduced in 1993 and in 2018 Hodinkee celebrated its 10th Anniversary with the introduction of the Omega Speedmaster HODINKEE 10th Anniversary Limited edition of 500 pieces. It looks very similar though it doesn’t have the triple date.

Here we have a 1999 Omega Speedmaster Automatic MK40 175.0084 with a 39mm polished and satin-finished case that fits snuggly on the wrist, a black Tachymetre bezel with silver etched numerals. The domed crystal protects a matte grey dial, a date outer track with its indicator hand ending in a yellow-tipped pointer showing the correct date. Applied Arabic indexes indicate the hours coated in luminescence, we have 3 sunken dials, a 30-minute dial that incorporates the Day and Month at 12 o’clock, followed by a 12-hour dial at 6 o’clock, and finally, a 24-hour dial at 9 o’clock with blue and black indicating night and day, perfect for the intrepid explorer or executive travelling around the world. Sword hands with lume and a red chronograph hand complete a very elegant dial, a screw-down case back complete with the Hippocampus, inside an Automatic Omega Cal. 1151, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, Rhodium-plated finished movement. The watch comes fitted on its original 18mm Omega-signed bracelet.

Personal Note

We have sold many MK40s over the years and with each one I get in for stock the closer I get to keeping one, eventually, I suspect it will happen! I love this watch as it feels so at home in the slightly smaller case with an automatic movement, the colours of the dial really pop and adds a hint of fun to what is usually a very serious watch. If you haven't experienced an MK40 in person, book an appointment and come see it for yourself.
