The Watch
Breitling was established in 1884 by Leon Breitling in the Swiss Jura Mountains. In 1915 Gaston Breitling introduced a pusher at 2 o’clock to start, stop and reset the chronograph. Leon later moved the reset to a pusher at 4 o’clock. During 1939 Breitling shipped a huge quantity of chronographs to the Royal Air Force. They introduced the “Navitimer” a navigation computer in 1952 used to calculate a flight plan. In 1969 they introduced a self-winding chronograph movement. Breitling stands for high precision, outstanding performance, and functionality. The Colt model was released in 1980 initially for armed forces like the Navitimer and Chronomat. Due to popular demand, it soon established itself as one of its best sellers.
Our 1999 Breitling Colt Ocean A17350 has a 38mm polished tonneau case. Curved stubby lugs and a thickness of 12mm ensure a comfortable fit on the wrist. On the right side, a protected screw-down signed crown. Polished and brushed surfaces transition with crisp edges. A unidirectional 60-minute bezel has screw’s around its edge to give you some surface to grip. Deep engraving and raised 15, 30 and 45-minute sections make this undoubtedly a Breitling Colt. Its flat scratch-resistant sapphire crystal AR coated is recessed adding some protection against knocks. A black textured dial with an outer minute track. Applied baton and numeral indexes with lume plots add depth to the dial. At 3 o’clock a date window. SuperLumiNova coated sword hands with a tapered centre seconds hand. Applied Breitling wings at 12 with text precisely executed. On the reverse, polished stainless steel screw-down case back, deep engraving stating its Chronometre credentials. Inside an Automatic ETA 2824-2, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on an 18mm Breitling leather strap with a signed buckle and comes with a complete box and papers signed in 1999.
Personal Note
This model has always been a very underrated one from Breitling in my opinion, beautifully designed and the proportions on the wrist are fantastic for both men and women. Even more so with the prices what they are for a beautiful condition complete set model with its receipt, does it get much better?
