Here we have a highly sophisticated 1999 A. Lange & Söhne Langematik 18ct White Gold 308.027 featuring a heavy 37mm 18ct White Gold case with a beautiful brushed and polished finish, gently curved lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 44.5mm, and a case thickness of 9.5mm, ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a signed crown with a coin edge for grip, sitting just below the signature integrated date pusher at 10 o'clock. The polished, smooth bezel holds a sapphire crystal above a stunning, solid silver black dial; an outer minute track has perfectly applied, faceted white gold baton indexes with luminous dots, and elegant luminous-filled white gold hands, polished for an incredible finish, complemented by a classic framed big date at 12 o’clock and a beautifully executed recessed sub-seconds at 6 o’clock. On the reverse, a screwed-down sapphire exhibition case back with the details engraved around its edge proudly displays the case and movement numbers. Inside beats the iconic, automatically wound Lange Calibre L921.4 "Sax-0-Mat", featuring 36 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour; this movement is meticulously adorned with a 21ct gold and platinum micro-rotor, elegantly finished to the highest standards. Lange and Sohne were founded by Adolf Lange in 1845 and is based in Glashutte, Germany, which is the heart of German watchmaking. In 1848, Lange became Mayor of Glashutte, where he spent 20 years making Glashutte a thriving Industrial centre for watchmaking. In 1875, Lange’s heart failed, and he passed away at the age of 60. Leaving the business to his sons, Richard and Emil. In the final months of World War 2, a Russian bombing raid destroyed their workshops. By 1948, the Soviet administration nationalised the company’s remaining property and, for 45 years, the name of A. Lange and Sohne was no more. It wasn’t until 1989, with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Iron Curtain, that Walter Lange, Adolf Lange’s great-grandson, was finally able to return to Germany and continue his family’s tradition in the field of watchmaking. 1990 saw him re-register the name, and 4 years later, he produced their first timepiece in nearly half a century. In 2001, after 10 years of restoration work, the A. Lange and Sohne's workshop reopened in the remains of the destroyed building. In the years since, the brand has gone on to create over 40 new movements and achieve over 150 international horological prizes.
