The Watch

Formerly known as the La Generale Watch Co. it was founded by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. In 1903 they renamed the company Omega until 1982 when they officially changed their name to Omega SA. They are part of the Swiss Swatch Group. The Omega Speedmaster Triple Calendar was first introduced in 1993. In 2018 Hodinkee celebrated its 10th Anniversary with the introduction of the Omega Speedmaster HODINKEE 10th Anniversary Limited edition of 500 pieces. It looks very similar though it doesn’t have the triple date.

This 1995 Omega Speedmaster Triple Calendar MK40 has a 39mm polished and satin-finished case that fits snuggly on the wrist. A black Tachymetre bezel with silver etched numerals. The domed crystal protects a matte grey dial. A date outer track with its indicator hand ending in a yellow-tipped pointer showing the correct date. Applied Arabic indexes indicate the hours coated in luminescence, We have 3 sunken dials, a 30-minute dial that incorporates the Day and Month at 12 o’clock, followed by a 12-hour dial at 6 o’clock, and finally a 24-hour dial at 9 o’clock with blue and black indicating night and day. Perfect for the intrepid explorer or executive traveling around the world. Sword hands with lume and a red chronograph hand complete a very elegant dial. A screw-down crown and screw-down case back complete with the Hippocampus. Inside an Automatic Omega Cal. 1151, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, Rhodium-plated finished movement. The watch comes fitted on an 18mm original Omega stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp. Comes with its Omega Service pouch and service card.

Personal Note

Sometimes triple date watches can just look too busy, but I feel this MK40 has balanced the dial incredibly well despite the amount of information it has to display. The play on colour is also fantastic, it adds a real pop without being overwhelming and I feel would fit nicely in a collection and not stand out as too much! Plus thanks to Hodinkee's re-edition these have become harder and harder to find in great condition and often sit in people's collections for the long haul.
