The Watch
Here we have a beautifully sculpted 1992 Piaget Polo 18ct Yellow Gold Lapis Dial Box & Papers 15213 with a brushed and polished 14mm 18ct Yellow Gold case that sits on your wrist with distinctive lugs. A lug-to-lug length of 24mm and a case thickness of an incredibly thin 5mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. This collection was initially designed as an equestrian sports watch by Yves Piaget in 1979, who cleverly brought horology and jewellery craftsmanship together. It was famously worn by Andy Warhol and Miles Davis. The 18ct Yellow Gold case consists of outer decorative rounded flanks, brushed flat inner sections matched by a central vertical, rounded strip splitting the dial for an attractive architectural design. A flat crystal sits above a stunning Intense Lapis lazuli dial, created from a naturally forming deep blue mineral found in limestone deposits that have been mined for thousands of years. 18ct Yellow Gold Dauphine hands sit perfectly on this sterile dial; in the top right, we have the Piaget logo, reprinted during the 2024 Piaget Service. On the reverse, a screwed-down 18ct Yellow Gold case back stamp, inside a quality Quartz Piaget Cal. 601 movement, operated via a push button on the case back. The watch comes paired with its original Piaget 10mm leather strap and 18ct Yellow Gold pin buckle, and it comes with a Piaget presentation box and paperwork, including 2024 Piaget Service paperwork.
Personal Note
Piaget is without a doubt on a roll among collectors at the moment and the more unusual the watch, the better. This wonderful Piaget Polo in 18ct gold features a beautiful blue lapis lazuli dial, this one has some flecks of gold that can be seen in certain lights, but in most lights, it appears as this deep blue dial that contrasts beautifully against the shape of the case and the gold bar running through the dial. Featuring a quartz, back button push movement to operate, keeping the design clean without a crown present. This reference 15213 is topped off by the fact it comes with its original box, and paperwork from 1992 plus 2024 Piaget service, so do not hesitate to add this gem to your collection today!
The Brand
Piaget was founded in 1874 in the small Swiss village of La Côte-aux-Fées. Georges-Édouard Piaget had a passion for watches from a young age. He created movements from his workshop. It wasn’t until his son Timothée Piaget took over that the business saw a vast expansion, building a new manufacturing facility. In 1943, Piaget became a registered trademark. They created ultra-thin watches with their 9P Calibre, which was an incredible 2mm thick, a world record that they still hold. Today, Piaget is a subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont group. This group includes Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, IWC Schaffhausen, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Montblanc, Dunhill, and Chloé.
