Points of Mention

This watch is sold “Watch Only” and, therefore, comes without an Audemars Piguet box or paperwork. It comes paired with an original 20mm AP leather strap with an AP 18ct Yellow Gold pin buckle. The watch is from Circa 1992 and is sold in worn condition with signs of wear, but very fair overall condition for its age; a full case refurb can be provided at an additional cost. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

The Watch

Here, we have a classic 1992 Audemars Piguet Ultra-Thin 14894BA with a 34mm 18ct Gold case that gently curves over your wrist with fine lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 36.5mm and a case thickness of an Ultra-Thin 5 mm ensure a comfortable fit. On the right side is a coin-edged domed crown. A smooth, slim bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal above a striking, crisp white dial, an outer minute track has applied 18ct Yellow Gold Breguet style indices marking the hours, and delicate 18ct Yellow Gold leaf hands sit majestically in the centre; at 12 o’clock, we have the Audemars Piguet motif in black to complete this sophisticated dress watch. On the reverse, a screwed-down 18ct Yellow Gold case back, inside an incredibly thin manually wound AP Cal. 2080, 20 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes paired with an original 20mm AP leather strap with an AP 18ct Yellow Gold pin buckle.

Personal Note

When you think of Audemars Piguet you no doubt instantly think of the iconic and legendary Royal Oak, but AP was so much more than that with revolutionary and incredible creations like the Star Wheel and some of the most beautiful perpetual calendars, all of which are gathering momentum and appreciation within the market. But there are still gems to be found, like this elegant Ultra-Thin 18ct Gold reference 14894BA. I would highly recommend booking an appointment to come and see this in the metal for yourself, but be wanted, you will likely walk away with it on your wrist and a huge smile on your face!

The Brand

It was founded in Le Brassus, a small village inside the Vallée de Joux in Switzerland. In the early 1870s, two watchmakers worked independently. Their names are Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet. In 1875, they joined forces to create the brand Audemars Piguet. In 1892, they created the first-minute repeater wristwatch. 1899 saw the first Grand Complication pocket watch released, featuring a minute repeater, alarm, perpetual calendar, deadbeat seconds, chronograph, and split-seconds hand. They released the thinnest pocket watch calibre in 1925, while the first skeletonised pocket watch was released in 1934. In 1946, they released the world's thinnest wristwatch. On the eve of the 1972 Swiss Watch Show BaselWorld, Audemars Piguet met with Genta, and they tasked him with creating a luxury sports watch. Genta introduced an idea the next day, and the Royal Oak was born. Their Royal Oak Offshore collection was launched in 1993 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Royal Oak. Stephen Urquhart, CEO of Audemars Piguet, asked Emmanuel Gueit, a 22-year-old Swiss designer, to create a youthful sports enthusiast watch.
