The Watch

Here we have a 1990s TAG Heuer Carrera Re-Edition Tritium 36mm CS3111, a faithful modern interpretation of their 1964 Heuer Carrera released in 1996. The 36mm polished stainless steel case curves over your wrist with angled tapered flat-ended lugs, a lug-to-length of 44mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm ensuring a comfortable fit. Down the right side, we have the piston-style chronograph pushers and a signed crown in the centre. A stepped smooth bezel holds a domed acrylic crystal above a black dial. A white decimal scale track surrounds a 60-minute scale above applied baton indexes filled with Tritium and Tritium pips marking the hours, at 3 o’clock a 30-minute register, at 6 o’clock a 12-hour register and finally at 9 o’clock a continuous seconds register, each precisely executed with a white stick hand. Slender sword hands filled with lume are complemented by a tapered chronograph hand, at 12 o’clock we have the Heuer motif completing this vintage-inspired re-edition. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with “1964 Heuer Carrera Re-Edition” and the Heuer motif engraved into it, inside a manually wound Lemania 1873, 18 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes paired with an 18mm sports-style leather strap complete with a distinctive Heuer pin buckle.

Personal Note

Arguably this reference CS3111 is one the best Heuer Carrera Re-Editions they have done, this model dates to the late 1990s featuring the perfect 36mm unpolished case, tritium dial and hands rather than the later Luminova and beating away inside is the Lemania 1873! I wouldn't hesitate on this one if you are interested, book an appointment and come check it out for yourself.

The Brand

Edouard Heuer founded The Heuer Watch Company in 1860 in St. Imier, Switzerland. Chronographs have been the mainstay for Heuer and later TAG Heuer. Featuring many models and configurations, expanding the possibilities to the full. In 1958 Jack Heuer, Edouard’s son, joined the company. In 1962 the first generation of Autavia was launched, famously worn in the 1970s by Formula One drivers such as Derek Bell, Jacky Ickx, Emerson Fittipaldi, Clay Regazzoni, Mario Andretti, and many more. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton S.A. offered a bid in 1999 that was accepted by TAG Heuer.
