A 1990s TAG Heuer Carrera Re-Edition CS3111, a beautifully faithful recreation of the legendary 1964 Heuer Carrera. Introduced in 1996, its wonderfully proportioned 36mm case, domed acrylic crystal and clean black tri-compax dial capture the character of the original remarkably well. Inside sits the manually wound Lemania 1873, bringing a suitably traditional mechanical experience to this historically inspired chronograph. Finished with a sports-style leather strap and distinctive Heuer buckle, the CS3111 is a wonderfully wearable neo-vintage chronograph that combines classic Carrera design with the usability of a more modern watch.

Description

Here we have a 1990s TAG Heuer Carrera Re-Edition 36mm Lemania CS3111, a faithful modern interpretation of their 1964 Heuer Carrera released in 1996. The 36mm polished stainless steel case curves over your wrist with angled, tapered, flat-ended lugs, a lug-to-length of 44mm, and a case thickness of 12.5mm, ensuring a comfortable fit. Down the right side, we have the piston-style chronograph pushers and a signed crown in the centre. A stepped smooth bezel holds a domed acrylic crystal above a black dial. A white decimal scale track surrounds a 60-minute scale above applied baton indexes filled with Tritium and Tritium pips marking the hours; at 3 o’clock, a 30-minute register, at 6 o’clock a 12-hour register and finally at 9 o’clock a continuous seconds register, each precisely executed with a white stick hand. Slender sword hands filled with lume are complemented by a tapered chronograph hand; at 12 o’clock, we have the Heuer motif completing this vintage-inspired re-edition. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with “1964 Heuer Carrera Re-Edition” and the Heuer motif engraved into it, inside a manually wound Lemania 1873, 18-jewel movement, beating at 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes paired with an 18mm sports-style leather strap complete with a distinctive Heuer pin buckle.

Personal Note

For me, this is still one of the best modern reinterpretations of a vintage Heuer Carrera ever made. Even after all these years and countless Carrera reissues, the CS3111 just gets the important things right. The 36mm case is perfect for the design, while the black dial, domed acrylic crystal and clean tri-compax layout give it all the charm of the original 1960s Carrera. Then there's the manually wound Lemania 1873 inside, a proven workhorse movement that suits the character of the watch perfectly. If you love vintage Heuer but want something you can wear and enjoy with a little less worry, I think this remains incredibly hard to beat. Add this brilliant watch to your collection today!
