The Watch
Here we have a classic 1990s Piaget Gouverneur 18ct Yellow Gold Manual with an 18ct Yellow Gold round 33mm case. On the right side a coin-edged push/pull crown. A stepped smooth bezel holds a domed crystal above a crisp white sector-style vertical lined dial with gold accents. An outer minute rail track surrounds Black ink Roman numerals marking the hours; at 6 o’clock, a sub-seconds just below the elegant Dauphine hands; at noon, we have the Piaget motif completing this stunning timepiece. On the reverse a screwed-down case back Swiss hallmarked with an aperture showing the watch's beating heart, inside a High Grade Manually Wound Piaget Cal. 1050P, 17 Jewels. The watch comes fitted on a suitable 18mm leather strap secured by its original Hallmarked Piaget 18ct yellow gold pin buckle.
Personal Note
The Piaget Gouverneur in 18ct yellow gold is the perfect watch for the person wanting a beautiful dress watch that can also be toned down with a brown leather strap or suede and work perfectly with a pair of jeans or something more casual. Coming in at 33mm it wears incredibly well and is super elegant, especially against the contrasting white dial and black Roman numerals. I would not hesitate to book an appointment to come and see this watch in the gold for yourself!
The Brand
Piaget was founded in 1874 in the small Swiss village of La Côte-aux-Fées. Georges-Édouard Piaget had a passion for watches from a young age. He created movements from his workshop. When his son Timothée Piaget took over, the business saw a huge expansion, building a new manufacturing facility. In 1943, Piaget became a registered trademark. They created ultra-thin watches with their 9P Calibre, which was an incredible 2mm thick, and they still hold a world record. Today, Piaget is a subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont group. This group includes Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, IWC Schaffhausen, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Montblanc, Dunhill, and Chloé.
