The Watch

Here we have a 1990s Franck Muller Cintré Curvex Chronometro 5850 with a curvaceous 31.5mm Tonneau-shaped 18ct White Gold case that gently curves over your wrist with a lug-to-lug length of 45mm and a case thickness of 11mm ensuring a comfortable fit. On the right side is a signed crown, and a domed sapphire crystal sits above a stunning silver Guilloché dial. An oval minute track surrounds large Arabic black painted numerals marking the hours, elegant blued steel hands are complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand, at 12 o’clock we have the Franck Muller motif and at 6 o’clock “Chronometro” completes this exquisite sophisticated dress watch. On the reverse a screwed-down white gold case back with deep engraving “Master of Complications”, inside an automatic Franck Muller Cal. 2800 (Platinum Rotor), this quality modified movement has a base of the ETA 2892-2. The watch comes paired with a suitable aftermarket 18mm leather strap with its 18ct White Gold Franck Muller pin buckle.

Personal Note

Amazingly this is the first Franck Muller I have stocked at KibbleWatches and what a gem it is! 18ct White Gold Cintré Curvex with this incredible silvered dial that has developed a warm patina, this watch truly looks like something straight out of the 1920/30s Art-Deco era from a brand like Patek Philippe, even more so in a precious metal! This is one well worth booking an appointment to come and see for yourself on the wrist.

The Brand

Franck Muller, the founder and former CEO of the luxury watch brand that bears his name, was born in 1958 with a natural curiosity for the art of watchmaking. He spent his childhood in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a city renowned for its watchmaking industry. At the age of 15, he enrolled in a watchmaking school to pursue his passion. After graduating from the Watchmaking School of Geneva, Franck Muller worked on repairing high-end pocket watches and with Patek Philippe watches under the guidance of an independent watchmaker named Svend Andersen. This experience allowed him to gain a deep understanding of the mechanisms that power complicated timepieces, inspiring him to establish his own workshop. In 1984, Franck Muller designed his first Tourbillon wristwatch, which was a technical marvel that showcased the full extent of his mastery. The watch was an instant hit, and he continued to receive requests for new timepieces, leading to the establishment of the House of Franck Muller in 1991 after meeting his co-founder Vartan Sirmakes. Franck Muller currently produces a limited number of watches each year for private clientele and has 570 official retailers worldwide, with five sites located in different parts of Switzerland.
