The Breitling Chronomat was created by Ernest Schneider who acquired Breitling in 1979. He consulted with the Italian air force aerobatic team known as Frecce Tricolori. Instead of the lugs that bend downward toward the wrist Breitling instead put the bend in the lug end of the bracelet giving it a flat profile. Another feature was the screw-on markers at noon, 15, 30, and 45 minutes on the bezel. The outer edge of the bezel has large screws to help with grip.
Our 1990s Breitling Chronomat has a 39mm stainless steel case. Polished and brushed surfaces end at stubby lugs. A lug to lug length of 45mm and a thickness of 14mm gives the watch excellent wrist presence. On the right side, we have chronograph domed pushers and a domed screw-down crown. The flat sapphire crystal sits above a silver dial with a concentric lined pattern and has an outer Tachymeter chapter ring. Applied faceted baton indexes with lume tips mark the hours. At 3 o’clock a date window. Three registers steel-framed black with white numerals consist of a 30-minute register at 12 o’clock, a 12-hour register at 6 o’clock, and finally, a 60 seconds register complete this outstanding chronograph. Sword hands coated in luminescence with a chronograph seconds hand and the characteristic Breitling anchor balance. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the Breitling wings and A13047 engraved into it. Inside we have the Breitling Cal. B13 based on the well-known Valjoux 7750 movement. An Automatic with a quick set date. Beating at 28,800 beats per hour. Breitling upgraded the following movement parts, balance wheel, hairspring, and mainspring with their own alloy metals. Once reassembled the movements go through regulation and fine-tuning at Breitling, in order to meet COSC accuracy requirements. The watch comes fitted on a 20mm leather strap with a signed deployment clasp. Comes with its Breitling presentation box.
