Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Omega box or Omega paperwork. The watch comes paired with a 20mm leather strap. The watch is from Circa. 1990 and is in worn, vintage condition but overall very good as you can see from the photos. Everything is original on the watch, the hands are later service replacement hands. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

The Watch

Omega was formerly known as the La Generale Watch Co. They were founded by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. In 1903 they renamed the company Omega until 1982 when they officially changed their name to Omega SA. They are part of the Swiss Swatch Group. The Omega Speedmaster Professional was made famous for its 6 lunar missions. NASA in 1964 sent out letters to 10 watch brands, asking them to send in a Chronograph. Only four brands responded to NASA’s request, which was: Rolex, Longines-Wittnauer, Hamilton, and Omega, comically Hamilton sent in a pocket watch. Having all the specific requirements to achieve precise measurements, Omega continued to be tested with the many manned flights.

Here we have a 1990 Omega Speedmaster Professional 145.0022 with a 42mm stainless steel case polished and brushed surfaces lead to the characteristic twisted lugs. The crisp lines transition effortlessly around the case. A lug to lug length of 48mm and a case thickness of 14mm ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist. Down the right side, we have the chronograph pushers which sit close to the case and a screw-down signed crown in the centre. A fixed tachymeter sits on its black bezel. The dial is protected by Hesalite crystal, an outer minute track with slim baton indexes that mark the hours. 3 recessed Sub-dials are 60 seconds, 30 minutes, and 12 hours. Sword hands and an elegant long central chronograph seconds hand that accurately hits the minute track. The dial has perfect symmetry. Hands are lumed with LumiNova after a later Omega Service and indexes are lumed with its original Tritium. The screw-down case back is engraved with “Flight - Qualified By NASA for all Manned Space Missions” and “The First watch worn on the Moon” a fitting testament to man's achievements in space. Inside we have the Cal. 1861, 18 jewels hand-wound Chronograph beating at 21,600 bph. As a manual wound movement, it is the direct descendant of the original moon watch that used the Cal. 361 movement. The watch comes fitted on a 20mm leather strap.

Personal Note

If you've been looking for a Speedmaster with some age and charm, you've found it! Plus, for me, I personally prefer older Speedmaster's with a bit of patina on a leather strap, so this one is ready to go and be the strap monster it has always has been. As of the time of writing this, we have a few different generations of the Speedmaster, so book an appointment, try them on and choose which one is the one for you!
