About Corum

Corum, a distinguished watchmaking company, was established in 1955 by the dynamic duo Gaston Ries and René Bannwart in the picturesque town of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, renowned for its rich horological heritage. René Bannwart was captivated by the term "quorum," which signifies the minimal number of individuals required to conduct meaningful discussions and make binding decisions. In a creative twist, he opted for the simpler spelling "CORUM," infusing a unique identity into the brand. The brand's emblem—a key pointing triumphantly skyward—serves as a powerful symbol, representing the intriguing mysteries yet to be unravelled, the complex challenges to be overcome, and the uncharted territories awaiting exploration. This emblem also encapsulates the essence of innovation and the relentless spirit of inventiveness, tenacity, and boldness required to achieve mastery over the relentless progression of time. In 1960, René Bannwart made a significant mark in the world of horology by designing the instantly recognisable Admiral’s Cup watch. This creation was inspired by the prestigious international yachting regatta held at Cowes on the Isle of Wight, orchestrated by the esteemed Royal Ocean Racing Club. Corum proudly supported this celebrated race up until its final competition in 2003, during which it garnered a reputation for excellence. Following this rich legacy, the brand rebranded this line of timepieces as the Admiral’s Collection. In 1964, Corum introduced the innovative Coin Watch, an audacious design that featured an ultra-thin movement combined with a backless case, merging artistry with technical prowess. The subsequent year, 1965, marked the debut of larger-sized watches, including the elegant Buckingham model, which captured the spirit of its time. Celebrating a rich history of craftsmanship and innovation, CORUM proudly commemorated its 65th anniversary in 2020, a testament to its enduring legacy in the world of fine watchmaking.
