Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Credor box and Credor paperwork. The watch comes paired on its original Credor integrated bracelet which has a total length of **cm. The watch is from September 1981 and is sold in worn, vintage condition, but overall very fair condition as you can see. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

The Watch

Seiko, with the success of the Grand Seiko quartz line in 1974, decided to create another luxury line called “Crêt D’or.” The term in English translates to Gold Crest, which was used to describe the top of the mountain. Later in 1978 they produced their first catalogue and renamed the brand Credor a combination of the original name. In 1980 they produced the world's thinnest movement at that time at just under 1mm thick. Since then, Credor has been free to pursue exotic watchmaking, the likes of which we associate companies like Vacheron Constantin to A. Lange & Sohne.

This rare 1981 Credor Seiko “Ellipse” has a 30mm stainless steel square case with 10 chamfered and facet edges expertly polished and brushed. Credor really has gone that extra mile with their detailing of this watch. The lug to lug length of 30mm and a thickness of just 5.05mm ensures a very comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side, a Cabochon polished Onyx stone crown. A flat crystal protects a stunning sunburst Galvanic Royal blue dial with fine applied indexes beautifully polished with facet edges. The dial catches the light in a magical way as you rotate your wrist. Elegant thin baton hands with a centre seconds hand are again finely chamfered and polished. Under the brushed stainless steel case back a Seiko Quartz Cal. 5931, a high-quality movement made from 1978 until 1988. The watch comes fitted on its original  Credor 19mm exquisite Integrated bracelet that majestically flows over your wrist. The bracelet can be resized by cutting it, Seiko has placed helpful guide marks to assist you and then re-screw the clasp back onto it, this needs to be done by a professional jeweller. The watch comes with its original Credor soft suede box and papers.  Originally sold as per the sales booklet 25/9/S56 which is in the Japanese calendar based on the emperor's year on the throne Emperor Hirohito (Shōwa in Japanese) reigned from the 1920s to 1989, therefore this watch was sold 25/9/81. Nicholas Bowman-Scargill from Fears Watches has done a fascinating Instagram live all about this watch and compares it to his own personal Credor which looks almost identical but without a centre seconds hand, you can watch this by visiting his Instagram @nicholasbowmanscargill today.

Personal Note

As Nicholas said in his Instagram live "Lightning doesn't strike twice", but for us with this incredibly rare Credor it has! And it struck with an even mightier example, with its original box and paperwork which I have yet to see with another watch, it is truly stunning and museum-quality to have a set like this. I wouldn't wait on this one if it is what you would like, you won't find another quite like it.
