The Watch
Here we have a 1980s Movado/Zenith Manually Wound with a curvaceous 31mm Gold-Plated case that sits on your wrist with a central gold-plated ring for the spring bar to go through, reminding me of a delicate piece of jewellery. A lug-to-lug length of 38.5mm and a case thickness of just 6.5mm ensures a comfortable fit. On the right side a gold-plated crown with an attractive black cabochon centre. A flat crystal sits above a black sterile dial, elegant gold-plated Dauphine hands sit in contrast to the black dial, at 12 o’clock we have the Movado motif completing this sophisticated delicately executed dress watch. On the reverse a stainless steel snap-off case back, inside a manually wound Zenith Cal. 2320, 17 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes paired with a suitable 18mm leather strap with a gold-plated pin buckle.
Personal Note
The moment I saw this Movado/Zenith I immediately knew I had to get this watch in for stock, featuring a truly unique patina on the black dial and is an objectively rare watch, with a similar aesthetic to a Must De Cartier Vendome it's the perfect watch for him or for her. Smaller watches are the perfect addition to both a casual or dressier look!
The Brand
Achilles Ditesheim at the age of 19 founded LAI Ditesheim & Freres SA in 1881. With the help of 6 watchmakers, he built a workshop in the small village of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. In 1905 he renamed the company Movado meaning “always in motion” in the international language of Esperanto. In 1947 Nathan George Horwitt created the single-dot watch dial. In 1960 Horwitt's original design became the first watch dial ever to be accepted by the Museum of Modern Art, New York. In 2017 Movado Group purchased the Olivia Burton brand based in London. It is one of the fastest-growing fashion watch and jewellery brands in the UK. In October 2018 Movado Group acquired MVMT which specialises in selling quartz watches, sunglasses, and jewellery. The Movado Group also owns Concord, Ebel.
