Description

Here we have a classic 1980s Chopard Geneve Step Case 18ct Gold Dress Watch, Model 2147, featuring an elegant 31mm 18ct yellow gold octagonal stepped case. Its slim profile leads to a lug-to-lug length of 32mm, and a case thickness of just 5.5mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a recessed crown with an attractive black cabochon. The stepped contours of the case add interest and draw the eye towards the flat, slightly raised octagonal crystal above a minimalist champagne dial. A large Roman numeral for 12 sits above the decorative sword hands in the centre, and the Chopard motif is found at 6 o’clock, completing this sophisticated two-hand dress watch. On the reverse is a snap-off case back engraved with the details of the watch and the Swiss hallmark, inside a quality quartz movement. The watch comes paired with a 19mm well-suited vintage-style leather strap.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold as ‘Watch Only’ and therefore comes without its Chopard box and paperwork. The watch has been fitted with a fresh battery and comes paired with a 19mm well-suited vintage-style leather strap. The watch is from Circa the early 1980s and is sold in worn condition, as you can see. A full case refurb can be provided at an additional cost on request. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

The incredible team recently sold this watch over at Goldammer, and it has now found itself here in London with us, and I could not be happier. This Chopard features the most striking stepped case in 18ct gold, and coming in at 31mm by 32mm, it wears beautifully on the wrist. The simple, yet bold dial has the exploded "XII" and features only 2 hands, all powered by a Swiss quartz movement. I've paired it on a suede strap that tones the watch right down to be worn in a casual situation, but throw it on a black strap, and you've got yourself the perfect dress watch. Snap this gem up and add it to your collection whilst you can!

About Chopard

Le Petit-Fils de L.-U. Chopard & Cie S.A. is more commonly known as Chopard. It was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in Sonvilier, Switzerland. Local farmers during the hard winters would assemble watches that would be collected by the master watchmaker. Paul-Louis Chopard opened in 1915 a branch in the nearby town of La-Chaux-de-Fonds. Later in 1937, the company was relocated to the heart of Geneva. Karl-Scheufele III, a goldsmith and watchmaker, owned ESZEHA, making jewellery and watches. He was looking for a Swiss supplier and came to Geneva, where Chopard was last on his list; they immediately got on and a deal was struck. The Scheufele family of Germany has owned Chopard since 1963. Their clients included Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. In 2010, Chopard joined the Responsible Jewellery Council. The world’s first watch crafted from Fairmined gold was made by Chopard in 2013.
