The Watch

Yema was founded in 1948 by Henry Louis Belmont after he came top of his class at the National Watchmaking School of Besancon in 1931. The legend goes that the name Yema was created by a teenager's imagination who entered a competition run by Henry. 1963 saw the introduction of the Yema Superman, essentially made for dive professionals. It had a 300-meter water resistance. Its bezel lock system made it unique and was soon adopted by the French Air force for its pilots. In the 1960s, Yema became the leading watch exporter in France, selling more than 500,000 watches a year in over 50 countries. In 1982 Yema went to space with Yema Spationaute 1.
The 38mm stainless steel case has polished and brushed surfaces. Angled tapering lugs with a lug to lug length of 48mm and a thickness of 13.5mm ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist. The slim bidirectional dive bezel has the iconic bezel-lock system at 3 o’clock, to release the bezel, unscrew the crown, turn the bezel to the desired position then push the crown back in to lock it once again. On the dial you find Patent Pending this was in reference to their bezel lock system, so important for setting your dive times without the bezel moving during the dive. The screw-down crown has a double gasket protection system to help water resistance. A thick domed Acrylic crystal sits above a grey dial, applied double baton indexes with luminance down the middle marking the hours. At 3 o’clock a date window. A sword hand for the minutes alongside an arrow hand for the hours coated in luminance. The center sweeping seconds hand has a lume filled tip and red dot. On the reverse, we have a screw-down case back with the Yema shield engraved in the center. Inside an Automatic ETA 2783, 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a 19mm Tropic rubber strap.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only". The watch is from Circa. 1974 and is sold in a worn, vintage condition with signs of wear and age throughout, the dial is in fair original condition which has been relumed in its past. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

Patent Pending on anything is just a super cool thing, for what reason, I have no idea, but I know you all love it too! The design and size of this on wrist is fantastic, the bezel looks brilliant and to have any vintage Yema is a cool thing, especially as the brand is growing in the modern world again and taking lots of inspiration from their past.
