The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

The Watch

Seiko's history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892 Seikosha was established making wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924 the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) was established in 1937. Seiko was listed on the Tokyo stock exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co., Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959).

Seiko 5 is the longest continuously running series in the Seiko family. The 5 stands for the watch 5 principle attributes :

  1. Diaflex (unbreakable mainspring)
  1. Diashock (Seiko's shock-resistant design, equivalent to the Swiss "Incabloc"),
  1. Automatic winding,
  1. Day/date indication,
  1. Water-resistant.

Here we have a 1973 Seiko 5 Sports "UFO" with a 43mm stainless steel brushed case. The distinctive case shape gives it its name UFO and is very comfortable on the wrist. A lug to lug length of 43mm and a thickness of 14mm confirms this. A flat bezel with a black insert holds the Hardlex crystal that protects the inner bezel which is rotatable in either direction via the crown. At 3 o’clock a framed day-date window. Baton hands and hour markers are easy to read with an application of lume, which is in its original condition and looks incredible. An orange sweeping centre seconds hand adds a nice contrast against the black dial. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside we have an Automatic Seiko Cal. 6119, 21 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes on its original Seiko 19mm stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp.

Personal Note

Seiko always offers incredible value for money, the whole world knows it! Vintage Seiko, however, offers insane value for money! This is one amazing looking watch, some very cool features and in its original condition looking amazing. Whether a Seiko fan or not, this can be appreciated by everyone for how cool and 70s it is!
