Points of Mention
This watch comes as a watch only and therefore has no box or paperwork, the watch, however, does come on an official Omega black leather strap with an official Omega buckle. The service history on the watch is unknown but the movement is clean and running flawlessly. This is a used/vintage watch but is in overall good condition.
The Watch
In 1973 the Calibre 1230 was introduced to the world, an incredible and unique tuning fork movement with an asymmetric tuning fork that resonates at 720Hz, whereas the more traditional tuning fork movements are 300Hz! It also used a series of magnetic gears to power the gear train, so the first few gears have no teeth like a traditional gear train, very complex and interesting stuff! Far out of my depth but super interesting nonetheless.
The reference 198.0038 we have here is an early reference featuring the movement, this watch was made the same year the movement was introduced! With its unique case shape and interesting bezel, you can tell Omega had the future in mind when designing this watch both inside and out! I think its truly looks brilliant both on and off the wrist and is a great testament to why Omega is one of the best watch brands in the world and thankfully is still under-priced for what they have achieved!
Personal Note
This watch shows what Omega is all about! Developing some of the very best movements in the world and making them functional and affordable to the world, this watch looks truly brilliant today as I'm sure it did in 1973!
