Universal Genève was founded in 1894 in Le Locle, Switzerland as Universal Watch, by two Horology students Ulysse-Georges Perret and Numa-Emile Descombes. By 1919 they had moved their operations to Geneva and renamed the brand Universal Genève. They have been owned by Stelux, a Hong Kong investment group, since 1989.
Here we have a classic 1970s Universal Geneve 3092 765. The round 31mm gold plated case curves towards the straight lugs. A lug to lug length of 38mm and a thickness of just 7mm means the watch wears larger than its dimensions suggest. On the right side, an original signed crown. A flat bezel holds a domed crystal above a white dial. Elegant Roman numerals mark the hours. Slender pencil hands complete this understated dress watch. At 12 o’clock the Universal logo and name precisely printed in black. On the reverse, a stainless steel snap-on case back. Inside a Manually Wound Universal Geneve B-42, 17 jewel movement. The watch comes fitted on a 16mm black leather strap.
