A 1970s Ulysse Nardin 36000 Chronometer, a fascinating example from an era when brands competed fiercely for ever-higher levels of mechanical precision. Housed in a sleek stainless steel cushion case, its clean, integrated design perfectly captures the forward-thinking aesthetic of the decade, while the vertically brushed dial and bezel-less construction give it a distinctly modern feel even today. The real highlight lies beneath the dial, where the high-beat Ulysse Nardin Cal. NB 11 QU operates at an impressive 36,000 vibrations per hour and carries official chronometer certification. Combining elegant styling with serious mechanical pedigree, this is a wonderfully understated watch from one of Switzerland's most historic and respected names in precision timekeeping.

More Information

Description

Here, we have a 1970s Ulysse Nardin 36000 Chronometer with a curvaceous brushed 35mm stainless steel Cushion Case. Thanks to its 40.5mm lug-to-lug length and 10 mm case thickness, it sits comfortably on your wrist. On the right side, a rare UN signed coin-edge crown. The top of the case has vertical brushing, creating an attractive effect; the bezel-less design forms a seamless transition from the case to the flat crystal that sits above a vertically brushed silver dial. An outer minute track has applied polished and brushed facet-edged baton indexes marking the hours. At 3 o’clock, a date window. Slender steel baton hands are complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand. We have the Ulysse Nardin Anchor motif at noon, “Automatic” printed underneath and “36,000 Officially Certified Chronometer” at 6 o’clock. On the reverse, a screw-down case back, inside an automatic Ulysse Nardin Cal. NB 11 QU, 25 jewels, beating at 36,000 beats per hour. Based on the ETA Cal. 2826, this quality movement has a screwless Glucydur balance, a flat hairspring, and an eccentric screw for fine regulator adjustment. It comes paired with a well-suited 18mm leather strap and pin buckle.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold “Watch Only” and therefore without its original Omega box or paperwork. The watch comes paired with its well-suited 19mm leather strap. The watch is from Circa. 1964 and is sold in worn, vintage condition, though, as you can see from the photos, the watch is in fair overall original condition, with “ghost” fading to the DON bezel insert, even patina on the Tritium on the dial, and professional relumed original hands. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

This is one of those watches that becomes more impressive the longer you spend with it. On paper, it might not immediately jump out at you, but on the wrist, the design is absolutely superb. The cushion case, bezel-less construction, and beautiful dial create a watch that feels incredibly cohesive and far more contemporary than its 1970s origins would suggest. What also stands out is the value for money. You're getting an officially certified chronometer from Ulysse Nardin, powered by a high-beat 36,000 bph movement, all wrapped up in a distinctive and wonderfully wearable case design. When you consider what comparable high-beat chronometers from some of the bigger names command today, these still feel remarkably overlooked. I would not hesitate to snap up this vintage gem today!

About Ulysse Nardin

Ulysse Nardin was founded in 1846 in Le Locle, Switzerland, by Ulysse Nardin. They moved to their rue Jardin premises in 1865, where they still manufacture watches today. They designed the world's first-ever marine chronometer and won many awards for deck watches, chronometers, and wristwatches. In 1983, Rolf W. Schnyder took over the company. After his death, the company joined the Kering Group in 2014.
