Description

Here we have a classic 1970s Tissot Seastar Quartz 'PRX' on a Bracelet 40641, featuring a brushed and polished 35mm tonneau-shaped stainless steel case that sits comfortably on your wrist, with flat-ended lugs and a flowing, integrated bracelet. This iconic watch design inspired the latest Tissot PRX collection. Polished bevel-edged flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 41mm and a case thickness of 12mm. On the right side, a coin-edged crown.  The polished, smooth-sloping bezel features a flat crystal above a silver dial. An outer minute track with Tritium pips and thin batons marking the hours, at 3 o’clock, a framed date window. Slim baton hands tipped with Tritium are complemented by a tapered second hand. At noon, we have the applied ‘T’ and ‘Tissot’ printed underneath, at 6 o’clock, ‘Seastar Quartz’ completes this Genta-inspired timepiece. On the reverse, a solid brushed and polished case back, inside a rare Quartz Tissot Cal. 2030, developed in 1976 by SSIH Group. It had a limited production run when it was upgraded to the Calibre 2031 in 1978. To set the minutes, the wearer needs to press the crown for five seconds, release it, and then repress it again to engage the motor. The internal stepping motor would then move the minute and hour hands to the desired position. A useful feature for the traveller was the convenient function that allowed the hour hand to be set independently of the minute hand by pulling the crown. It comes paired with its 22mm integrated stainless steel bracelet secured by an adjustable folding clasp.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Tissot box or original Tissot paperwork. It comes paired with its 22mm integrated stainless steel bracelet secured by an adjustable folding clasp, it will fit up to a 7.1-inch wrist. This watch is from Circa. 1970s and is in worn/vintage condition, with some signs of wear and a charming patina, as you can see from the photos, but overall excellent condition for its age. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

This is a wonderfully rare Tissot that resembles the Tissot PRX, arguably Tissot's most successful watch in decades. This is the 1970s Tissot Seastar Quartz 'PRX' 35mm, reference 40641, paired with its fantastic Tissot bracelet, which elevates the design on the wrist. Pair all of that with the crazy depth the bezel provides, and this is unlike anything else on the wrist, providing serious wrist presence whilst maintaining a smaller 35mm footprint. I would not hesitate to add this watch to your collection, as who knows when another will come up for sale!

About Tissot

The Swiss luxury watch company Tissot from Le Locle, Switzerland, was established in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. Under Charles-Emile’s direction, they manufactured pocket watches with parts from Russia and the United States. In 1915, the company began producing wrist watches. Between 1920 and 1977, Tissot produced its movements. In 1930, to survive the 1929 crash and economic crisis, they agreed with Omega to form the SSIH Group, which 53 years later became the Swatch Group.
