The Watch

Here, we have a quintessentially 1970s Smiths Digital "Jump Hour" Blue Dial Manual with a 42mm Chrome base metal cushion case, the shiny curved flanks lead to a tapered lug-to-lug length of 40mm, and a case thickness of 10mm ensures a comfortable fit. On the right side is a push/pull crown. The horizontal brushed top surface has an oblong-shaped crystal above a blue dial. A horizontal line is helpful when reading the minutes. In the centre, we have the jump hour and minute windows framed in white; on the left, we have the “Smiths” motif; and on the right “, Digital Swiss Made” completes this quintessential 70s timepiece. On the reverse, a snap-off case back, inside a manually wound EB Cal. 8800, 1 jewel pin lever movement, beating at a leisurely 18,000 beats per hour. The watch comes paired with a well-suited 22mm NATO strap and pin buckle.

Personal Note

I am the lucky owner of a few amazing 70s Smiths Jump Hours and I unfortunately only have 2 wrists, so this one has left the personal collection and now will find its new home on a new lucky owner's wrist. The case shape is unapologetically 1970s, the blue is striking and the jump hour is a real conversation piece. Do not hesitate to add something unique to your collection that is also incredibly affordable in the world of watches today!

The Brand

Originally founded in 1851 by Samual Smith, he made automotive dials and cockpit instruments. He transitioned into clocks and, finally, wristwatches, which came to the fore during WW2. Famously, Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay in 1953 carried a Smiths De Lux watch to the summit of Everest as well as the more famous Rolex. Since 1996, Timefactors.com has been manufacturing and selling homage and re-edition timepieces from Omega 300 to Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. They now own Smith's name and, therefore, sell many models from Smith's illustrious past.
