The Watch

Le Jour was a French distributor during the 1960s. Yema used the brand to introduce its watches into the USA. They produced many watches and chronographs with the help of Heuer using quality Swiss Valjoux movements. During the 1980’s quartz revolution, like many other European watch bands, Le Jour soon went out of business. Roll on 30 years, and the brand has been revitalised with authorised dealers across the world. They were producing many watches taken from their heritage such as the MK1 001 a modern re-issue of the classic chronograph 7203 with its barrel-shaped case and fitted with a Valjoux 7750 movement.

Our 1970s LeJour Racing Watch Manual FE 140 has a 38mm chrome tonneau case. On the right side, at 4 o’clock is a crown. A friction fit 60-minute scale bezel holds a domed crystal. The white and black dial is made up of an outer rotating 24-hour chapter ring, chequered flag seconds and tritium coated baton indexes marking the hours. At 3 o'clock a framed date window. Slender white baton hands with tritium tips are complemented by a bright orange second hand. The dial is a standout feature with its racing aesthetic and flashes of colour. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside a Manually Wound FE 140, 17 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a 20mm racing leather strap.

Personal Note

Another almost forgotten about brand that was producing some fantastic-looking watches in the 1970s, this being one of them! This watch offers a ton of vintage charm and character for a very fair price, perfect for someone new to vintage or a hardened veteran!
